Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Update from Nixon re. Berge that basically the deal is on. He is suggesting it’s a £12m fee. Also sounds like the Blades will snap up Souza.

Aren't the owners still trying to sell up. A bit like MG not wanting to spend when selling up.
The shyster from Africa who thought he owned an airline has screwed them over badly. They pinned all their hopes on that, and it was a crock of ****.
Still every cloud has a silver lining, only the silver lining is for us, not them.

I was actually quite excited by Daramy, but now that it looks unlikely he’s rubbish and I hate him.

i'm happy about Berge, plenty of experience in the PL which is important given the rest of what will likely be the starting 11

so 29 more than 90% of our squad then, pretty much represents a full seasonrandomclaret2 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 07, 2023 5:03 pm300 or so first team appearances, but only 29 of those in the Premier League

We could go the other way and say that he has played 17 times in European competitions, 6 Champions League & 11 Europa League, and in most of them he played the full 90 minutes.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Mon Aug 07, 2023 5:05 pmso 29 more than 90% of our squad then, pretty much represents a full season

We have one of the weakest set of strikers in the league (Can't see many of them getting more than 5 goals)...
We have one of, if not the weakest set of central midfielders in the league...
We still haven't signed a left-back...
We haven't replaced THB's leadership and organisational skills...
We have less pace and a proven goal threat than last season!
We will survive but it has been a wasted transfer window so far.
A certain "blind man on a galloping horse" obviously didnt see our transfer business in the summer of 2020

Can you blame them, it would be no different on here if we sold Benson and then Cullen to them without signing anyone. I have a bit of sympathy for them as fans just like us who both love our clubs.warksclaret wrote: ↑Mon Aug 07, 2023 5:57 pmThey have some charming fans reading some of their comments

I don’t give a crap what they say! Was bloody good for Burnley when we really needed him. He was a good premier league striker for 3 seasons are so no doubt about it.gandhisflipflop wrote: ↑Mon Aug 07, 2023 6:22 pmIt seems the forest and Newcastle fans have seen the light.

The thing with Wood is he played in a team that was built around getting the most out of the strikers returns. Accomodating him in this style often stifled the rest of the team and when Wood wasn't scoring, it was difficult to see what he was offering.
We are much better balanced having goals come from all over the pitch. For once I am not concerned with one striker carrying us to safety with 10+ goals as they will come from all over the field.
In this respect I think we are playing 'moneyball' closer than people realise this season.
The numerous signings and links out wide, some at a young enough age that they don't have to be registered with the squad but can be used. Some of these players that in there careers have only played handfuls of games for there clubs but contributed goals and assists. There could be some moneyball logic in statistically them offering together over a full season the sort of returns that negate the need for a 10+ goal a season striker.

Southampton turned down a third bid from Liverpool of £46m for Lavia so any thoughts of getting Tella for less than £20m have gone.

Seem to recall there was significant interest in Berge when United got relegated - their financial position then was probably better than it is now
Once this story broke looks like we felt the need to act quickly - according to Blades fans - who weren't expecting the sale - they assumed once it became known he was available for £12M other clubs - like West Ham for example - would be in for him
Excellent work by the club if they can get this one over the line

Seems like a great signing on the face of it, and straight out of left field. It does make me wonder what Sheff Utd’s motive for selling is though, particularly to a rival who you would assume can afford to pay their players similarly to ours.

Apparently only 12 months left on his contract, but very much like the Tarky situation here a couple of years back, surely better for Sheffield to forego the £12? million now and hope he plays a significant part in keeping them in the PL and all the riches that entails. Then let him walk at the end of the season if that's his wish. Feels weird to me, unless they are unbelievably hard up.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Seems like they are not prepared to allow players to run down their contracts - Heckingbottom said they accepted Marseille's offer for Ndiaye because he had less than 12 months left on on his contract and they didn't want him to walk away for nothing next summer
It does suggest a serious cash-flow problem
Can only assume we've structured the proposed deal in such a way that we're making a significant payment up-front
Perhaps it is linked to Vinicius Souza and United will land him this week
