I do for my job but I can’t believe there aren’t any more posts on this….more people need to be aware of wha to do…35 minutes on this is nothing…

We were visiting my dad and he didn't seem himself. Mr M had been on a first aid course the day before and spotted heart attack warning signs - nausea, cold sweat etc. I phoned 999, an ambulance quickly arrived (this was 12 years ago!) and sure enough dad was having a heart attack. The paramedics were amazing. Dad had a stent put in and is still going. He will be 102 later this month!

Thanks for sharing, bfcmik. I did my FAAW a few years ago, and really need to refresh that. It was such a valuable thing to do.
I'll make a point of doing this over the bank holiday weekend.

My daughter is a senior cardiac nurse and frequently administers CPR. It’s hard work but the reward of knowing you brought a person back to life is huge. Recently she phoned to say she had recovered 2 males in a single shift so was going to the pub to celebrate.
The nation could be taught via television. How many lives would that save?

Just gone through the session. Found it very useful and would recommend people spare 35mins for what could be a life saver for someone in the future.

I agree 100% it should be taught in year 11

I find incredible that schools can’t shave off 30mins in any given week for a short weekly 1/2 lesson in first aid / general
health etc .

Great stuff. How do we all get a stent?

Just took the session and found it useful as a refresher to previous training and would suggest it is very useful for a first training session for anybody minded to do it.
I see that "mouth to mouth" is now reinstated following the Covid years when "hands only CPR" was promoted.

I left school a few years ago. We used to have PSHE Lessons weekly. I can only remember learning anything about first aid twice. Once was in Year 7 when the Red Cross came in and did CPR Training. The second was during lockdown where we were sent videos to watch from St Johns ambulance about general first aid.

I dont often comment on here but this one is my area!
CPR and indeed First Aid is now part of the school curriculum for primary and secondary, with differentiated knowledge levels obviously.
I would suggest that everyone needs to learn CPR - over 80% of out of hospital cardiac arrests occur in the home so there is a good chance it could occcur with someone you know.
I have run a campaign called restart a heart since 2014, starting here in Yorkshire but now runs worldwide. We have some great resources for anyone wanting to learn or find out more

It is taught in schools already and can be taught as well as Shakespeare. The two are not mutually exclusive. My Y9 daughter did both recently.
