Took a while to settle but now seems happy here, which shows on the field. The scowl has well and truly gone.

One thing that deserves saying about Roberts, which I think does him immense credit as a person: he seems to me to be absolutely brilliant with the mascots.
Many of the players are (i have a pretty good view as they walk out to line up on half way), but Roberts always appears to go the extra mile to really try and engage with the mascots. A couple of months ago his mascot clearly got a bit overwhelmed by the occasion and burst into tears - after the handshakes Roberts made a point of going to see him again to console him and spent so long doing it he nearly missed kick off.
I've seen lots of players react well to mascots being a bit upset but he seemed to go much further than I've seen before. I thought that said a lot about him.

Up there for player of the year for me. Been brilliant after the new year. Really settled into the role and made it his.

Absolute different player/character since the World Cup.
Looks like he’s come out of his shell completely. Funny bloke.

He's been excellent for us this year and looks happy in his current role. The way he gave it Weghorst showed his passion too

Agree with this
Tied for player of 2023 for me
He's playing a role we've not seen at Burnley before - RB/DCM/Frank Lampard arriving in the box late

Wasn’t a huge fan of him up until the World Cup, which may be an arbitrary date, but is likely more significant than that. But since then he’s been great and what I interpreted to be a prickly character before I now see as mischievous and comical. Looking forward to seeing him kick on next season.

I don’t think many have seen the Cafu, makelele, kaka role player like he has done since Christmas

His reaction to Benson not playing in him, and then hitting 'that' shot at Bristol last week is worth watching.

Yes he’s been great second half of the season. I’ve been enjoying his antics with BPF too, messing about at half time when both were subs, then him on BPF’s shoulders at Sh&twood

Really grown into the city style right back / centre half / holding midfielder / goal scorer…. Out of all the positions in a kompany / pep line up I think this and maybe cullens holding role is the most complex to learn.

He has definitely improved and would appear to be first choice for right back, which seems to be also deep midfield as well. Good to see that he has given up, or been told to give up, on those useless long throws as well.

It pains me to say it showed more about Wout keeping his cool on another day with another bloke Connor would have been given a hard slap & it could be argued rightfully so taking my claret biased spectacles off.

He was miserable 10 months ago. 10 months is a long time in football and looks a different player now.

Bit like a dog who's just been allowed to wander round the whole garden, rather than be tethered to a stake in a corner of the lawn.

He was. He practically admitted as much himself, saying he was too distracted by the World Cup.

10 months ago he seemed as though he wasn't sure if he had made the right move in coming to Burnley. He did seem very downbeat every time he appeared in the limelight.
In fact I seem to remember that his wife made a comment about his situation at the club.
He has since admitted that the lead up to the World Cup for Wales had taken priority in his mind. Up to that time when the season halted for the World Cup his form had been very average at times and he was slated a couple of times for seemingly backing out of challenges in one or two games for us.
He gave the impression that he was more concerned in not getting injured and possibly missing going to Qatar with Wales.
Since the season restarted he has been both a different player and different person. His form has been excellent and he has been an important member of our team.
His celebrations in various games with the rest of the team has shown how well he has now integrated within the squad.
His demeanour has changed completely from the first half of the season.
I presume that's why some people on here were saying that he looked miserable early on in the season.
In all fairness those people did have a point.

You are spot on when you say "another bloke". If it was Weggy doing the slapping, it would be off target and it wouldn't be hard, more like a feather.

What I was trying to say was in a pub environment if somebody came up close mouthing abuse in your face the outcome could have been very different. Connor basically knew he could get away with it.

Connor didnt give two ***** what he could get away with, he say Wout do something he never did for Burnley after being a generally arrogant person in the dressing room and decided in a moment of anger to call him out on like many have Wout didnt throw a punch because he is not an idiot.

So you actually think Connor in a pub environment would have reacted the same & played macho.

It was a joke Jacub, maybe not funny but a joke nonetheless.
Regarding pub environment, you could link any action that takes place on a pitch and say the outcome would be different in a pub.

No because in a pub environment a 6,6 Wout wouldn't have scored a ridiculous diving header to win Netherlands the match after having spent 6 months being an egotistical oath who contributed nothing to the team in which Conner Roberts played.

You are supposed to show a certain degree of professionalism in a pub it's more relaxed without the watchful eye of a referee & the fear of repercussions. If somebody steps out of line & are put back in line it's accepted.

There's nothing with disagreeing, basically I'm saying in a pub with Connors behaviour there would be an higher likelihood of the other bloke ripping his head off & Connor wouldn't be so brave, it's probably typical of footballers when rolling about & diving & being perceived as soft, when in some environments with some men you more or less would need a tank to knock them over.

I am certain his confidence with us was curtailed by our manager at the time preferring to play an ageing, and past his peak Matt Lowton. I know he joined us with an injury, and recovered but at a later date that year develop a very serious illness. However it was not until January (and he had signed in August) that he started playing for us.And it was not because we we were playing well that kept him out the team Thankfully VK has been quick to appreciate the talent in him. His goals and assists this year have been brilliant. The unsung hero in our side for me

Matt Lowton was a little unlucky to lose his place because he was playing well at the time.

Really ?? At the end of January when Roberts started playing we had one win in 18 games and 12 points. That means we had conceded 42 points
