I spoke to him briefly in the Ruby Claret before the game. That guy is a real unit.

Apparently he's rung them to ask where it is and they said "It's just round the corner mate...be with you any second" That was 5 minutes ago.

Re: JJ Watt on Radio 5 breakfast programme today
Brilliant stuff. Great interview and good to show that video clip of his announcement.
Our drinking and pub culture is so different to what they have State-side. They can view standing on the pavement drinking a pint of Guinness as worse than carrying a loaded gun (depending on where in the country you are). So I bet he loved his pub crawl down Yorkshire Street. He strikes me as the type to rather be in there than the Director’s Lounge, although I doubt he’ll make a habit of it.
Clever guy as well, they do educate their sportspeople well over there.
I struggle to see any downside, prices going up due to all the profile and success is probably the only one.

I've not got the link but there's a decent vid of him and his missus discussing their involvement with the club on YouTube.

Their sports people are 99% recruited from college when they've graduated, hence why they're generally well educatedCrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Tue May 09, 2023 9:23 amBrilliant stuff. Great interview and good to show that video clip of his announcement.

Subtitles on the BFC Facebook post are great. They reckon JJ says 'Up To Clarence' on his sign-off!!

I'm very deaf and use subtitles all the time. They can be hilarious; its like doing a puzzle sometimes to work out was was actually said to generate the odd subtitles shown. One that made me spit my tea was somebody in the studio evidently saying "Thank you vagina"; it was a sign-off to a guest and I presume the actual words were a not clearly spoken "Thank you for joining us".longsidetrumpet wrote: ↑Tue May 09, 2023 12:14 pmSubtitles on the BFC Facebook post are great. Cricket commentary is particularly difficult for them to cope with given: "tickles to fine leg" "Deep square going finer" etc.

Re: JJ Watt on Radio 5 breakfast programme today
You make a very fair point, Casper.
However, two or three of things make the difference less obvious, IMO:
JJ's engagement rate (the percentage of his followers who interact with his posts) is roughly 2.4x higher than DB's - which drops DB's social media 'value' to approx 6.5x that of JJ.
Then you need to consider that JJ's followers are almost exclusively US-based which make him an excellent option for influencing the potential US-based fan.
I think it's likely that a far-higher percentage of DB's followers already have a favourite club, whereas JJ's are perhaps more likely to become Clarets.
From what we've seen so far - JJ seems very "engaged" with Burnley. Long may it continue.

Re: JJ Watt on Radio 5 breakfast programme today
As an NFL fan, i knew he was well respected on and off the field, particularly in Houston when he was a part of the Texans but he's outshined that since he was announced as an investor. What a guy.
Re: JJ Watt on Radio 5 breakfast programme today
Burnley Fc have 780 thousand followers on Twitter, JJ Watt has 5.6 million.

He’s only ditched Chelsea because of their on field results!
He’s had a good party out of his new found Claret love .
Any ideas how much brass he has put into the club ?

Not sure the amount of brass he’s put into the club is the most relevant factor. It’s secondary to why the board have brought him in.

Re: JJ Watt on Radio 5 breakfast programme today
Watt has gone about it in quite a smart way. In all the interviews he’s making the point that the EPL is a massive emerging market and while Burnley will never compete for glitz and glamour of the big city clubs, there’s a story that resonates with a lot of Americans about a team from a small blue collar town, where there’s a real sense of local pride and identity. To the point that he highlights the fact he followed Chelsea but when he’s dug into Burnley it’s really resonated with him.
Some people scoffed when Pace said he wanted everyone to see Burnley as their favourite underdog, because they all saw it through the prism of a football culture that is all ready established in its tribalism. Only time will tell how successful this is but the early signs are positive. My brother plays in an amateur ice hockey league in Indianapolis (and used to work at the University of Wisconsin where Watt played college football) and he told the other night 3 of his teammates who knew he was a Burnley fan independently struck up interested conversations about Watt. The news is definitely getting out there!

The Wisconsin link is an interesting one that I have talked about for years in regards to our similarities to Green Bay, I a have always thought there was a shared story opportunity thereRicardoMontalban wrote: ↑Thu May 11, 2023 3:56 pmWatt has gone about it in quite a smart way. we have had WiscoClaret as a poster on here though he has not logged on since mid - March (though given Wisco joined the board in Feb 2021 I am assuming it is not JJ) and I personally know of other Wisconsin based clarets

Re: JJ Watt on Radio 5 breakfast programme today
I visited Madison on a couple of occasions and that’s very much the vibe I got. The whole of Wisconsin is nuts about the Packers but there’s a sense that they and the team are one. They have an identity that seems a bit unique in US sports. Maybe the St Louis Blues in ice hockey is similar. I have friends who are Blues fans and again there’s a similar vibe. Also a link with Dave Checketts there!Chester Perry wrote: ↑Thu May 11, 2023 6:10 pmThe Wisconsin link is an interesting one that I have talked about for years in regards to our similarities to Green Bay, I a have always thought there was a shared story opportunity there

I can see why Watt would see something there and dig it.
