Watford appoint a new head coach

Valérien Ismaël has replaced Chris Wilder at Watford.

Brilliant quote from their technical director Ben Manga who said: “Being able to appoint a new coach so soon in May means we can prepare very well together for next season.”

He will probably be gone by the end of September.

Excellent appointment for Watford - Shame he won’t get a chance

Assuming he isn't sacked before the first league game, he probably won't be far off being their longest serving manager of recent times.

He’ll be their longest serving manager in years, if he’s still in place for the first game of the season.

I’d hate to be a Watford fan. They’re becoming a bit of a joke club.

Looks like he's used to having short stints as manager, 6 days at one place

Absolutely. No one gets to come in and build anything. Just a year since they appointed Edwards who they said they would back come hell or high water. He went, then Bilic went, now Wilder’s gone. It’s the same every year. I think their fans have had enough of it.

Already on notice as they aren't 25 points clear.

Better to be a funny joke like Watford than a sick joke like Cardiff.

Enjoying the Besiktas fans replying to the tweet announcing him as coach. I think it’s fair to say they aren’t fans…

Honestly Watford would be better off running a real time simulation of football manager AI to manage their games and it would probably do a better job. That way through l they'd never need to employ or fire a manager again. They are also sponsored by them so it makes complete sense.

Watford fans seem to be pinning hopes on their new technical director Ben Manga who was brought in January from Frankfurt, where he had a decent amount of success it seems. They are hoping Manga gets to make the recruitment and managerial calls rather than the owners. Time will tell but I’m far from convinced with this appointment and they’ve got a big job to recruit for his quite specific style.

Did a great job at Barnsley according to my father in law. He was gutted when he left to join WBA

Slavisa Jokanovic
Quique Sanchez Flores
Walter Mazzarri
Marco Silva
Javier Gracia
Quique Sanchez Flores

Watching Watford will now be even better for the insomniacs. I understand from sound sources that Valerian is a great sleep aid

I think I've had a post deleted 🤔

Anyway, the basic gist of it was the majority of those 20 managers have gone on to do very little of note since leaving Watford, it's only Dyche, Silva and Jokanovic who've gone on to get clubs promoted into the PL and even then Jokanovic was potted before Xmas in the PL season with Fulham.

The rest of them have flitted about at numerous clubs and several are unemployed at present

Whilst I don't agree with Watford's hiring and quick firing policy, I did find that quite interesting

He was and, in fairness, lasted longer than some. Oscar Garcia was followed by Billy McKinlay and they lasted 35 days between them.
