National League Play-off ....

I'll be watching this later on this afternoon ...
My Dad, now 87 is in a Clitheroe residential home and lives with that b****rd of a condition that is Vascular Dementia. He grew up in Nottingham, lost his Dad during the war, and his Uncles would take him to Meadow Lane just after the war to watch County. I remember him telling me of the crowds going from 6,000 to 35,000 when they signed Tommy Lawton, when Notts were in the old 3rd Division North. When he was a bit older, he'd get the admission to both Meadow Lane & Trent Bridge, by collecting discarded beer bottles at the ground and getting the deposits back on them. By doing that, he saw the 1948 Australian " Invincibles ", led by Don Bradman on his last tour ...
I've nothing against Chesterfield, but I'm visiting him with Mrs Clarets4me tomorrow with his 2 year old Great-Granddaughter, and I'd love to be able to tell him " Notts " have been promoted ...

I think most neutrals will want Notts County to win today. Getting over 100 points you deserve to go up.

Something to do on a Saturday I suppose!

My oldham fan friend wants Notts County to go up just to have rid of both them and Wrexham for next season.

I’m another for County which is hard to say with Cooky managing Chesterfield.

2 clubs who are really far too big to be in non league so a real shame they can't both win tbh. Having said that I'm rooting for Notts.

Chesterfield 1-0 at the break .... BBC report says that County resemble " a man cycling through mud on a bike with two flat tyres " !

Big error by the keeper there
He should never have scored direct from that position

On the BBC Scores and Fixtures page BOTH goals scored are
shown as being penalties.

Bad mistakes by both keepers for the goals. A cracking watch though and as just mentioned Chesterfield should have had a penalty right after Notts equalised.

There will no one more relieved in Wembley than that man ....
Very pleased with that, and, yes perhaps justice was done in the end with 107 points in a 46 game season .... Although as a Burnley fan I shouldn't say that as we finished 5th & 6th in the seasons we were promoted via the Play-Offs ...

yeah I'm with you, not sure what alternative there is to the play offs other than the obvious - top 3 go up and that's it. It's about money imho

To be fair, we all know the rules in August when we all start on 0 points ...
Whilst we look back at the past with rose-tinted glasses, the introduction of 3 points for a win, the play-off system, the pass-back rule change, better stadiums and improved playing surfaces has made the game a much better spectacle. There are much fewer " dead " games, with both sides having nothing to play for, than there were in the past ...

Really pleased for your grandad clarets4me, remember the farce a few years ago when Sven Goran Erikson became boss after promises of untold millions.

Very odd. Wonder if he was told he's getting sacked if they don't go up? Or he'd bet his house on victory?!

Very strange behaviour. I can’t imagine Kompany sulking off to the changing rooms. Or Dyche.

I’ve not seen the game but it would have been so cruel on Notts County had they not gone up. They were 36 points ahead of Bromley who were also in the playoffs, imagine had they gone up.
What was Cooky up to? That’s ridiculous.

Gutted for my better half who was there with her Dad. The suffering in that league goes on for another year! Very hard to get out of.

they have to vote the change through so it's the top two that go up, can't cry about protecting the pyramid from the Super League and yet continue to screw the lower leagues over

Not many clubs in the NL relish a trip to Hayes Lane CT. Notts County having to rely on an injury time equaliser from Langstaff to escape with a point.
