Luke McNally’s value

If Coventry go up, I’d imagine they may well look to try and buy McNally.

We paid a couple of million for him, he’s still only 23 and is coming off the back of a very good season in the Championship.
If he’s not in our plans, we could stand to make a tidy profit for him.

He’s only a year older than Nathan Collins and we paid north of £10m for him off the back of a similarly good Championship season, albeit he didn’t help Stoke to promotion in the same way McNally has a chance to.

I’d be disappointed if we weren’t charging any suitors a massive premium to take him off our hands.

With what they want for their players we should be doing the same thing. The boot is on the other foot this year.

Have to be looking at £10m considering his contract length, age and performances. Fabulous loan move for him and us - we might get close to having signed Beyer for net-£0 if we sell McNally.

If we do sell him for a large profit, it’ll be another aspect of some excellent transfer business last summer.

£10m + McNally for Gykores

Not exactly a like for like. Ten million is probably on the high end. I personally think more around 5m mark based on his current experience.

Collins was 10m after just turning 20. He had also played more games at this level. Plus he has captained Stoke on a few occasions.

McNally is 24 this summer.

How much did we pay for him again? £2M?

Or do we go with 4 decent CBs?

If they put a bid in and we reject it does that mean we as fans have to be really angry with Coventry?

Not sure if it works both ways or not.

Doubt we'd get loads for him. If Coventry do go up, there's only going to be them interested in the Prem and they won't be throwing money around. Outside the Prem, I doubt anyone's paying over £4m. Still a great value buy for us, would be happy to have him back here as an option.

It does temper the significant loss that the club are likely to incur from signing Weghorst.

Whatever we perceive it as I hope it’s not daft after one good season.

If we want to keep then great but more cash flow is a good thing - especially when we’re looking to sign a few players ourselves

There really isn’t a lot of money swirling around in the Championship these days, I’m not sure which Championship club can really afford to spend £4m+ on a player.

This is only relevant if Cov go up, and if so £10m + 20% sell on fee.

If not, we could maybe sell him for what we paid - c£2m - so as no profit % to pay - providing we got Gyokeres for say £10-£12m.

Either way, we paid £12m for Collins, Leicester paid £15m for Souttar. We should NOT be selling him on the cheap and should bring him back or let him have another year on loan. 2 good seasons in the Championship should allow us to secure that sort of fee for an English CB.

With promotion he has to be worth £10 million plus add ons. Their other centre half, McFadzean, is 36 so if McNally returns to us they may soon be looking for two centre halves.

Do we want them to go up with a potential quick profit on one of our summer purchases to further fund VK’s restructuring…

Or stay down so we can pinch Gyokeres?

I’m not so keen on Gyokeres - think he could be an expensive flop. Quite like Hamer but not sure he’s Prem quality.

I for one hope that McNally is very much in Vk's plans for next season. He's got a composed air about him and I feel, given the opportunity, he could be a major asset for us moving forward. More so if we can't get THB back in some capacity.

So we raise his price every time an offer comes in from Cov and ultimately we don't sell him.

Am I understanding correctly?

Someone said on another thread that we might play 3 CBS at some points next season & I think that’s a good shout. McNally’s record in a 3 with Cov is phenomenal.

I’m very much in the camp we should bring him home but 100% not sell him cheaply.

We don't have a defender who is better in the air than McNally, he was immense for us when he was thrown in at Bournemouth. I'd personally keep him but VK knows what he's doing

Depends on whether VK thinks he's ahead of Al Dakhil and Ekdal. If he does think that (after all he has played more Championship football than them both) then we keep him unless a promoted Coventry get silly and start offering north of £12m and add ons or if Coventry stay down he is the difference maker in securing Gyokeres.

If VK thinks he's not our 2nd best CB then would make sense to sell for £5m + add ons & sell on to a promoted Coventry or use to get a discount on Gyokeres if they stay down.

somewhat agree, but if they do get promoted, they know they will need decent CH's in the Prem, where will they get that if not LM and at what cost to try and avoid relegation?

I’d keep him. Thought he looked good last night and not just in the air. When did 24 become old for a defender? Man U signed Jaap Stam when he was 26, and Liverpool Van Dyke when he was 27

Should Coventry City win the play-offs, no way should we be giving a rival a helping hand next season. (They will look to keep Gyokeres, but they shouldn't expect us to sell them McNally)
I would be happy for him to stay with us.
Alternatively, maybe used as a sweetener in a deal with Southampton for Nathan Tella??

Should be no question of selling him. We need 4 CBs next season to cover for injuries and play three at the back when needed. He has proved himself and deserves to be part of our squad.

I mean there not the best comparisons.

Stam had 5 full seasons in top Dutch league.
Van Dijk had 1 and half seasons in the Scottish top division (with European football) and then three and half seasons of premier league football.

24 isn’t old for a CB but he is certainly a late bloomer, at the age of 24 he will have played 50 professional games in his career. That is an incredibly inexperienced Cb for his age. I would be very hesitant to rely on him for the prem. a season long loan deal to get him a bit more experience will do him the world of good.

Gyokeres and £10m for McNally

Alternatively, we look at a different loan from Man City and have Luke back here.

Ok then I’m 2016 (at the age of 24) Dan Burn was signing for Wigan who had just won promotion from league 1

Dan burn already has two full seasons of championship football for Fulham before signing for Wigan.

I’m not really sure what your point is? McNally is very inexperienced he’s played very little professional football it doesn’t mean he won’t be good enough for the prem. just that he needs to actually get some minutes behind him before making the massive jump.

Definitely keep him. We need 4 centre halves. Beyer, Ekdal, Al Dakhil, McNally. That's one are of the pitch already sorted.

Go forward with the aim of securing two quality players for every position.

Do you think he has gone backwards since we signed him?

He's proved to be a very good defender at championship level often making team of the weeks, which our CHs struggled to.

5m to a championship club or 10m to a Premier league club would be more accurate.

I think our player trading model will be devoid of emotion going forward. If we paid 2m and they go up and offer £6/7m then I’d expect we sell.

Especially if THB comes back on loan which is a logical and good move for all 3 parties.

Yeah but we were relegated and sold £70+ worth of players, no other side had that level of income. I’m sure the 3 relegated clubs will be able to afford him, so there’s potentially 3 destinations.
