Plastic.
They will never EVER be bigger than Man Utd who are the biggest club in the world.

They are currently considerably better though. I suspect that's what they really care about, not how many shirts they sell in Thailand.

I don't think you can call the die hard City fans plastic though
They were there when they were s**t, and that isn't going to change

Thing is they're becoming everything they hated United for down the years. Ground full of tourists/plastics taking photographs.

Quite ironic really - Alan would bite his wife’s arm off for 10,000 football tourists each week.
Anyone that’s been to Old Trafford knows that they themselves have a **** tonne of tourists at each and every game.

There’s a weird dislike for them from a lot, I guess it always happens when someone’s successful.
Of course it’s bought, but they do have the best manager ever and the football they play is up there with the best ever.

Funny really unless they're playing someone who might give them a game I can't watch them anymore. Find it boring as hell watching them steamroller teams in first gear.

They’re not fond of us at all and I’m not fond of them at all.
I hope they get pumped by Inter in the CL final.

Georgi Kinkladze, what a player he was.
City fans are laughing their arses off at the rest of football.

They got a sh*t load of money and suddenly disappeared up their own anuses. I used to have a soft spot for them as the only "real" club in Manchester. Not anymore. They can play as much amazing football as they like for me, but they epitomise everything that's going to one day consume the game, alienate it from it's roots and the proper clubs and proper supporters and eventually spew it all out again. Jack Walker bought the league and almost 30 years later City have taken it to new heights (or imo, lows!)

The game has been consumed at the highest level. It is rancid. City v Chelsea or Halifax v Gateshead; I watched the latter. A game of honesty, integrity and decency, all those wonderful attributes our current prime minister endorsed a few months ago.

Some of that load of money has been used in the local community, the area and facilities around the ground are a thousand times better than they were before city invested in the area, with more to come

As a local, I'd say Manchester City have done FAR more the local community than Utd ever have - as Nori points out above.
I think it benefits Manchester as a whole to have two world class teams - and the city is big enough to sustain them both.

What a strange OP.
Not liking a 'plastic' club, saying that United will always be bigger and better... the club people have always been sick of for having tourist fans that don't come from Manchester.
If City continue to be the way that they are, then in time they may be just as big.
And it will be a world that seemingly a good number on here won't like. Don't hate the player, hate the game (and all that), which btw Burnley are looking to find their own version of.

City embody everything that is wrong about football at the top level.
Great side to watch no doubt about that though.

Quite right.
Until City got their £billions, they really put their fans through an emotional roller coaster continually for years.
They were either fighting relegation or promotion most seasons.
My mate is a City fan and I have witnessed him go through several seasons of depression and nervous anticipation at the end of a season.
Not good for his heart neither.

No they don’t, it’s Leicester that are guilty of that
They stole the livelihoods of scores of local tradesmen and did it without an ounce of shame.
Some have said that it was a long time ago, but tell that to those who lost their businesses
City were lucky enough to get major financial backing but no one was put out of business in that process

I'm not keen on their owners or the "multi club model", but there is no doubt that the owners have both revitalised the local area and built a football club that could dominate for years
Its morally wrong, rules have been broken or bent, but its no real difference from Chelsea being funded by a war criminal for all their success
Its just the way football and the world is going, and you can be very unhappy with that while appreciating the football on offer

I doubt many of us would be complaining if we were taken over and ended up with unlimited funds being thrown at us.

Also, ask their fans which is more important - beating Utd in the FA Cup final or winning the Champions League. The ones I know, through work, will look at you daft. Beating Utd is much, much bigger.

For me the only person that should receive all the plaudits is the guy bankrolling the whole shebang constantly signing the cheques at the drop of a hat it would seem, I've long thought by now some sort of a foolproof mechanism should be in place ensuring more parity amongst rest of the club's in the league & capping fees & stopping transfers taking place & issuing stricter penalities, because quite frankly for all intent & purposes FFP is a joke & far too easy to get around, the will to make all this happen isn't there while the decisions makers & people with any power influencers are all on the same gravy train receiving backhanders.

Maybe i'm in a very small minority but I genuinely do not want Burnley to be taken over by a state or oligarch. It's basically a cheat code to remove the very thing that attracted me to football in the first place - Jeopardy, the ups and downs, etc.
I'd take our current journey over being a club where only a major tactical error, complacency or lack of diligence by our own club could allow them to lose a match due to the fact that pretty much every team we face has spent less in their entire history on transfers than we have on our current bench. Where's the thrill in that?

A very strange post indeed, I love Burnley FC always have always will but City are awesome to watch in full flow…not one Burnley fan would turn down billions of £’s of investment into our club if it was offered and anyone who’s been to the Etihad can see the difference that the investment has made to the surrounding area…we can’t compete with them financially but just to be in the same league as them with a manager who cut his cloth as a legend with them is something we can all be proud of…personally I cannot wait to see Haaland, De Bruyne, Silva, Gundigan etc at Turf Moor

The problem with the argument ‘I’m not keen on the dodgy owners and I hate all the sportwashing, but look how much they’ve invested in the local community,’ is that that is exactly what sportwashing is.
