Graeme Souness - Charity

Don't care who he played for, managed or anything really.
The idea of a 70-year-old man with a record of heart issues planning to swim The Channel to raise money and, I think, above all, awareness of a chronic disease is all I want to focus on.

Was just about to post about this. Certainly shows a different side to the one he often presents, fair play to him.

Clocked this on the BBC web site, he is actually part of a team of six who will swim the circa 22 miles distance in relays.
Nevertheless 3/4 miles in the English Channel for a 70 year bloke will be some feat.
Also he has already raised £500k for this charity.

I read about this and saw him in tears with the little girl he knows with the illness he’s raising awareness and money for.
Well done to him.

He's always come across as somebody with a good deal of character and decency. Good bloke by all accounts I've ever read.

I watched him discuss this on BBC news this morning. He is very committed and was emotional about this with a little girl who had the painful condition also present. I always had a lot of respect for him but have even more now.

Was a quality player, in modern day terms he would be classed as a dirty so and so but he was by no means alone on that front in the 1980s. He was a good Manager with Rangers, in Turkey and unfortunately down the road with the horse fiddlers. He is one of the best pundits on Sky and i enjoy listening to him. And seeing this he is also a great bloke for taking on such a challenge for a cause close to his heart (no pun intended) that he feels strongly about. Huge respect for Mr Souness.

Just saw him on BBC news, very touching and a worthy cause that he is raising funds for, good on him and I wish him every success in this.
There but for the grace of God goes any one of us or our loved ones.

Gone up my estimation massively. Great cause and some achievement if he can do it.

A heart wrenching story surrounding this little girl and the ordeal and pain that she suffers daily with this rare skin disease. Fantastic effort by Souness and all involved to highlight this condition and raise much needed funds by doing a Channel swim.

Fair play to the fella, a fabulous effort.
This is the real Souness not the buffoon playing at punditry.

He doesn't come over as a buffoon. Because he isn't.

He lives on the Sandbanks Peninsula. Often seen jogging and timing his runs. It seems like quite an ordeal, swimming the English Channel, but it’s only twelve miles. I think he can do it. I wouldn’t mind having a go myself.

Good on him highlighting this awful disease
Wears his heart on his sleeve so to speak
What a footballer he was, all action, didn't take any prisoners
I'd love a modern day version of Souness in our side

As I said, I think he comes across as a buffoon when being a pundit.
You don't agree.
So what?

Along with Keane he's that rare thing, a pundit who doesn't care about being mates with the players.
As such his opinion is free from the fence sitting and blame-everyone-but-the-players ex pros.

I think he’ll be badly missed. Excellent pundit.

Well done Graeme Souness.
My skin issues with psoriasis & eczema are bad enough. I can’t imagine what people with these issues have to go through.

Nasty piece of work on the pitch but never had a problem with him behind a mike.

A friend of mine’s daughter suffers with this. I know he’s delighted that Souness is raising awareness. It’s an awful condition.

Hes one of them people that have associations with them lot and I don't hold it against him.
In todays modern game of players rolling round on the floor screaming, a tough throwback is always welcome on the punditry teams.
Seems a very nice man as well. Keep up the good work

Twelve miles if you're dyslexic.
Was that necessary?
Why poke fun at the disabled?

Very sad to read tonight that a fireman from Dudley is missing at sea trying to do this swim. It shows what a challenge this really is, and one that holds a massive risk to those attempting it.
