LG G2 OLED
Just a quick question regarding the above television. We recently bought one and have had to swap it three times. The first had ‘ghost shadows’ the second two have an annoying hum/ whine from we think the transformer. The hum is not constant but seems to occur when the screen is showing bright colours eg when watching Pointless for example. We’re fed up of it but need to stick with LG as we have had the stand built into the wall. Anyone else experience these issues? Also, this was the 2022 model so we’re thinking of upgrading to the 2023 model in the hope these issues are resolved in this years model. Has anyone got a 2023 model and if so any problems with it?
Many thanks for your thoughts.

Get in touch with LG directly.
I've done it a few times, was a UK call centre and dealt with quickly etc

Thanks, we bought it through Richer Sounds, they’ve swapped it over easy enough for us it’s just that it’s the third one wining like the second one. We just wondered if anyone else had experienced this or whether we are just very unlucky.tarkys_ears wrote: ↑Mon May 22, 2023 4:03 pmGet in touch with LG directly.

in all the reviews I've watched for TV's I've never heard of that issue for the G2. If it's an option get a refund and get the G3 (it's miles better)catcatcher wrote: ↑Mon May 22, 2023 5:00 pmThanks, we bought it through Richer Sounds, they’ve swapped it over easy enough for us it’s just that it’s the third one wining like the second one. Re: LG G2 OLED
The whining will be coil whine when the TV is using a lot of power. Was very common in the past with Plasma displays and isn't really a fault. It may differ unit to unit, and also lessen with age.

If they haven't warned you about it before purchase, it's surely a fault.superdimitri wrote: ↑Mon May 22, 2023 10:20 pmThe whining will be coil whine when the TV is using a lot of power. If so, every electrical appliance that consumes a lot of power would need a warning. There's differences unit to unit but this particularly is something that is going to bother some people more than others anyway just because the quieter the room, the more you'll notice it.

I'll repeat what I said earlier, I've never read nor heard in the reviews I've looked at (i'm guessing 30+) anyone suffering these issues with a G2superdimitri wrote: ↑Tue May 23, 2023 2:30 amIf so, every electrical appliance that consumes a lot of power would need a warning. Because it probably doesn't bother them when they have a high ambient noise level, or maybe they don't sit as close to the TV. You can see above I linked a thread on Reddit where someone else notices it.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Tue May 23, 2023 2:33 amI'll repeat what I said earlier, I've never read nor heard in the reviews I've looked at (i'm guessing 30+) anyone suffering these issues with a G2
My guess is the OP has gotten unlucky with some units, or they are sensitive to the noise. They could try some of the suggestions in the link such as avoiding the standard picture preset (something best avoided anyway).

not sure tbh, some of these you tube channels go into crazy depths, they would sure notice humming on a TVsuperdimitri wrote: ↑Tue May 23, 2023 2:41 amBecause it probably doesn't bother them when they have a high ambient noise level, or maybe they don't sit as close to the TV. Re: LG G2 OLED
LG are ignoring us and Richer Sounds say they never had a problem although they have duplicated the whine in the shop! They have given us an option to upgrade but don’t want to spend more money if it dies the same thing.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Mon May 22, 2023 9:15 pmin all the reviews I've watched for TV's I've never heard of that issue for the G2. Thank you, my husband thought it was the transformer. Those Reddit quotes are very interesting as LG say they were unaware of any issues and just tell Richer Sounds to swap it.superdimitri wrote: ↑Mon May 22, 2023 10:20 pmThe whining will be coil whine when the TV is using a lot of power. Re: LG G2 OLED
We sit about 18 feet from the TV and the whine is very audible.superdimitri wrote: ↑Tue May 23, 2023 2:41 amBecause it probably doesn't bother them when they have a high ambient noise level, or maybe they don't sit as close to the TV. Re: LG G2 OLED
it's very strange, I have a C1 and it's silent. I don't know how much the new G3 is in the UK but the reviews for it are excellent so if it's doable I'd be tempted to upgrade to thatcatcatcher wrote: ↑Wed May 24, 2023 8:42 amThank you, my husband thought it was the transformer.
