Kompany to City time frame.

Article in today's Guardian with an interview with Pep Guardiola regarding City's financial charges. He is looking to go after his contract after the next two seasons.
Quote:
"Guardiola was asked if he might stay for up to another : four years. “No, no, no. These two [to come] are enough.”
So now we know....two more seasons of Vinny at least.

There is a hell of a long way to go before VK will even be considered for that role.

I think he'd have to do really, really, really well with us to go straight to City

Depending on how next season goes, it might not be as long as you think.

Two more years would seem the likely timeframe. I suspect conversations have already happened, well run massive clubs will have a succession plan (Spurs and Chelsea don’t fall into that category). Of course if VK flops it may change things, but he will be being scouted by City, analysing everything he does to make sure.

If he gets Burnley into Europe in that time he may arrange with City and Pep that he will give one more year. All being well though with our performance, I feel sure that is where he will go next. I’ll be ignoring all the inevitable media links to other jobs in between.

City won’t hire a manager that has won nothing.

They want champions league, top division winners.

I’ll take that bet. Kompany will go to City directly from Burnley (if not sacked by BFC).

Like who?

There aren’t any out there with the same footballing philosophy as Guardiola.

If City were to win the Champions league this season and the next 2 which isn't beyond anyones imagination and then Pep leaves I am guessing newcastle is claiming Klopp & Tuchel will be the main names on the shortlist.

I suspect it’d be better for City and Kompany for have someone else take the position before he goes there. Kompany will have just two years top flight experience which doesn’t seem enough and from Kompany’s point of view following Pep as manger seems like a hiding to nothing. It’s the David Moyes slot.

I've always thought the perfect career path for Kompany would be a year or two more at Burnley then a couple at West Ham or Villa or similar, before landing a City type job.

However, amazing number of City fans think whenever Pep next goes, Kompany is their man. Whether that changes if Burnley struggle a bit next season, who knows.

Yes, it’s easy to get over exited. As amazing a job as he’s done this season it’s still only one season. I’m almost in the same position as I was this time last year in that I haven’t a clue how we’ll get on next season.

I think there's a really good alignment with the whole Kompany to City situation.

To get the City job he's going to have to do really really well with us. I honestly can't see him jumping to a stepping stone club, he's spoken so often of the club being run and surrounded by good people and wanting to protect that environment. The only way I see him leaving us is if we get relegated next season.

I guess the problem City have is that as they tend to win every trophy going, the pool of 'winners' elsewhere is getting smaller. Must be tough.

Arteta was the assistant at City then 1st job at Arsenal.

Pep managed the B team at Barca before getting the top job.

Xavi managed in Saudi and is now managing Barca.

Don't think Vinnie needs to go anywhere after Burnley before City IF he does well/ we play well.

After the comments made by Pep yesterday, they would be crazy to appoint anyone other than De Zerbi. He was very full in his praise and admiration.

Vinny has the Man City and Guardiola DNA.
He knows exactly how the club works, he is such a massive name himself that he can handle and manage any big money player.
We are truly blessed to have him at BFC no matter the time frame.
Who's to say Bellamy might step up to the plate at the time, with Jackson and keep the VK philosophy going.

Isn't that just because they're playing them next? He always does that, even if it's Bristol City in the cup for something.

Appreciate that but you really need to have seen the press conference to believe the level of praise, including calling De Zerbi one of the most influential managers of the last 20 years. It's not the standard "[insert oppo manager's name] has done a great job with the resources available and we could justifiably be considered underdogs in this fixture".

City hire proven winners these days.
Those with European experience, with a history of winning trophies etc.
They don't hire up and coming managers because that potentially endangers their position at the top of the league.

Emery at Villa would have a better chance, because he's a proven winner, has managed big names etc and is showing at Villa that the Arsenal job was just a blip.

Kompany will go on to do good things in football I think, but I don't see him being the man to replace Pep at City just yet.

Yep agree. I don’t see Kompany going directly from Burnley to City unless it’s in a lesser role than manager or we manage to win something (or City somehow fall into decline). It’d be a huge risk for City, they need someone to maintain their success and not take time to bed in.

Remember that managers do not win trophies, players do.

I reckon we would have had no chance this season but for the £50m+ worth of talent on loan for example. We hadn’t heard of them all, but in hindsight they were too good for that level.

So what City will do is keep the players and the stable philosophy - the pool of managers is quite small who can step in and keep the plates spinning the same way. That’s why I think they will go for VK but not for 2 years.

The “poisoned chalice” argument is something else, that key players will be at the end like what happened with Ferguson, De Bruyne, Silva, Gundogan, Ederson, Mahrez, Grealish - all way past 30 in 2 years or just going past 30 and in a position where they may start declining or getting injuries. Then ones like Haaland may go to Real. That wouldn’t stop VK taking it, but it may stop others.

I would think that Pep will have a bigger say than anyone on who replaces him when he leaves, and he's already stated publicly that Vinni is a future City manager. In two years time Vinni will have five years managerial experience, we will release him without any problem, it will be a seamless transition. If they give the job to someone else then Vinni will end up at another big club, and he may not be available as and when they want him in the future. As it stands he's their man whenever they want him, he's just waiting for the call, I'll be amazed if they look elsewhere.

The top owners are ruthless.

When you start getting nostalgic, you end up with a Lampard at Chelsea scenario. Liverpool got lucky that Gerrard failed at villa, because if he was still Rangers boss when Klopp left, he would have been appointed at Liverpool.

Kompany might go on to the top level, but he's no where near it at the minute.

The only way is up for Guardiola so it has to be the Manager of the Spanish National team.
Well, that will be the next 3 World Cups and the Euros going to Spain then......

Yep. It’s never going to happen.

VK would need to leave Burnley and win something to even get a sniff.

True. If they want to appoint someone who's won the Champions League, the choice is basically Tuchel, Zidane, or Enrique. And Zidane hasn't worked for 2 years.

At a pinch they could go for Flick (Germany manager), or Klopp (unlikely). And the only other CL manager under 60 years old is Di Matteo, who retired in 2017.

That would be abroad, presumably. If Kompany gets to one of the "big x" clubs and starts winning things, then perhaps even for Man City he wouldn't leave to start again. And if he goes to a PL club outside the "big x", then he won't win things any more than he would at Burnley.

Yes he could either go abroad or end up somewhere like a spurs or a villa. That would give him a good chance of getting near a trophy in England.

Everyone can be economical with the truth but putting Spurs and trophy in the same sentence is way off being accurate, Spurs best chance of being near a trophy is Arsenal winning one and it going past their ground :D

It was more an example of club size than spurs themselves.

Could even see him ending up somewhere like Brighton and going for a Europa conference or league trophy

Don't think it's a fanciful idea at all.
Think he is the ideal candidate in two years time if he does well here. It 's not just about the manager, it's the players who deliver. If he does go to City he will likely have played with one or two of them, his playing days are not that long over so he would still command the respect of the players in the dressing room. We're playing in that City style and we look good. No brainer for me..
I suppose the only other candidate would be Mourinho pia that he is, still knows how to win

Some people are not giving VK the respect he deserves, this guy is the real deal and don't think for a minute that the decision makers at City aren't lining up their ducks accordingly.
