Loads of great murder/revenge ballads in English/Scots traditional folk songs.
In the same idiom as Matty Groves- Martin Carthy's "Famous Flower of Serving Men" - arsoney/ murder/infanticide/ acting of gender change/ magic/royalty/ romance/ murderous revenge - has it all- including spiffingly good guitar accompaniment.

I like Blue October and their music, however many of their songs follow this thread thoughts, the link is one which gave me nightmares for quite a while, as I thought he was putting a women in a dirt box! Was very surprised when I saw/listened to this video, it also made me feel a little better as to the nightmare it evoked in my mind!
