ARTICLE: Brady extends Preston stay
Good that he seems now to have got over his injury issues and is playing more regularly to earn himself a new deal.

Good player. Shame we didn’t have him fit.

Re: ARTICLE: Brady extends Preston stay
Glad you commented on some of the nonsense at Deepdale, booing him seemed quite dumb.
A player doesn't ask or want to be injured but as we have seen with other players some get hammered on here as well for being injured. He was playing so well for us until that day at Leicester

Re: ARTICLE: Brady extends Preston stay
Such a shame he got the serious knee injury whilst playing for us because at that time we were playing some really decent football and he had really grown into a good Premier league player.

Re: ARTICLE: Brady extends Preston stay
Just wasn't the same player for us after that first big injury and, like JBG, just couldn't keep fit for long enough and often enough, Now both of them have an injury free season. I know a couple of Preston fans who have been really impressed with him but we know the qualities of a fully fit Brady.

We lost him in December and then Steven Defour in January. They were two huge blows for us that season.

Re: ARTICLE: Brady extends Preston stay
In the period where Brady was at his best the quality of the football was very good and up to his injury he was a key player.
I think we grew a bit complacent as to how good some of the players have been and how good the football was at various points.
I maybe being generous but I think all of Ben Mee, Tarko, Mc Neil and Pope are in for a shout for players of the year at their respective clubs. Anecdotally, I notice Tarko seems to be the go to player for the media at Everton. No doubt injury aside I think Cornet would have featured more as well.

When you look at the likes of Zaroury and Benson , I wonder what we could have done with the huge outlay on Brady if we'd been willing to look further afield for our signings at that time

He was our best player before the horror injury at Leicester.
Was it Maguire who caused it ?

Given that we made the top four when they were fit (almost in Brady's case), you wonder just what we could have achieved that season had they remained so.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Jun 06, 2023 8:26 amWe lost him in December and then Steven Defour in January. Re: ARTICLE: Brady extends Preston stay
Brady wasn't just "good" before the injury. He was fantastic. He was picking apart PL defences on a regular basis.
If him and Defour had stayed fit that season I really think we could have pushed close to the top four. They really were that good.

It’s good that he’s found a home. When we released him I confess I thought he was going to end up retiring due to his injuries or going back to Ireland, especially when he struggled at Bournemouth too.

It doesn't take much of an injury to leave you slightly off the pace, which, I suppose, could be mistaken for cba by a critical eye.Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Tue Jun 06, 2023 8:25 amAgreed a good player but another who displayed serious cba too often to start regularly for us
Even playing walking football, all my teammates and I can see all too often the effects of a slight knock or strain. You still want to go for it, you still try to go for it but the final 1 or 2% just isn't available. Whatever level you play that 1 or 2% is VITAL.

A wand of a left foot at his peak, but sadly it was the injuries that took their toll.
To suggest he couldn't be bothered though is ridiculous.

Disagree tbh.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Jun 06, 2023 9:56 amWe couldn’t have bettered Brady, he showed us just how good he was at Premier League level.
He had a purple patch but still flattered to deceive a lot of the time, not great with his attacking returns either.
People underestimate the Wood/Barnes partnership in that season we finished 7th
After the Defour injury we lost a bit of form till those guys got going

Re: ARTICLE: Brady extends Preston stay
I'll disagree with you too. The purple patch seemed to me to be from the start of the season to the day he got injured and I'm not sure how you can even suggest he flattered to deceive. Regarding the loss of form after the Defour injury, without Brady we failed to win any of the last seven games Defour played in the league that season - with the only points coming from away draws at Brighton, Man U & Huddersfield. My view is that we missed them both greatly.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Tue Jun 06, 2023 5:47 pmDisagree tbh.

Re: ARTICLE: Brady extends Preston stay
He played well for a period but I don’t think he contributed as much as he could - again very poor attacking returns for an attacking player on set pieces as well - 4 goals in 80 or so apps is poor from a widemanClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Jun 06, 2023 6:00 pmI'll disagree with you too. He got injured at Leicester - we beat Watford and Stoke just after that.
We did lose form then yes but I don’t think it can solely be attributed to the loss of Brady. Maybe more because we didn’t have an adequate replacement to slot in - especially in that 4-2-3-1 we played with Hendrick further forward.

Re: ARTICLE: Brady extends Preston stay
You suggested the loss of form came when Defour got injured but by then we'd had our loss of form. Yes, we won the next two but having been playing so well, we lost a lot with the injury to Brady. You are now quoting his overall record at Burnley but using that against the first 15 games of the 2017/18 season when, in my view, and others looking at this thread, he was one of our best players.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Tue Jun 06, 2023 6:15 pmHe played well for a period but I don’t think he contributed as much as he could - again very poor attacking returns for an attacking player on set pieces as well - 4 goals in 80 or so apps is poor from a wideman

Yeah I disagree - he still only scored one goal although he had a run of games where he played well.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Jun 06, 2023 6:21 pmYou suggested the loss of form came when Defour got injured but by then we'd had our loss of form. Not saying he was bad then but I wouldn’t say one of our best players -
For me Defour/Cork midfield partnership was what elevated our play and the rest were contributing well - especially Wood and Gudmundsson

Re: ARTICLE: Brady extends Preston stay
Having gone 1-0 down in that game we really were outstanding. We’d nearly scored from a Brady pass just before the one that brought the goal.JohnDearyMe wrote: ↑Tue Jun 06, 2023 7:53 pmStill remember his sublime assist for Wood's debut goal against Spurs at Wembley
Still hard to believe we got five points from the first three away games that season against Chelsea, Spurs & Liverpool.

That pass was probably Burnley’s only de Bruyne level assist.JohnDearyMe wrote: ↑Tue Jun 06, 2023 7:53 pmStill remember his sublime assist for Wood's debut goal against Spurs at Wembley
And the game at Leicester felt like a rubicon until the injury. I remember watching and thinking “we are actually that good.”; the passing and movement was better than anything we’ve seen since, and, for those of us fifty somethings, before.

Re: ARTICLE: Brady extends Preston stay
Indeed if memory services we started playing a 4-5-1 that season with Vokes up top with Brady cutting in offering real pace and trickery to unlock defences and at the same time doing the defensive work required, which I thought might be his undoing at first.maccclaret wrote: ↑Tue Jun 06, 2023 9:07 pmThat pass was probably Burnley’s only de Bruyne level assist.

After the injury Arfield came in and we remained hard to beat but wins, draws and losses turned into draws and losses by the odd goal and the cutting edge was gone and it only real came back when Dyche went back to 4-4-2 with Barnes and Wood up top.
For a short period he was outstanding in a 4-5-1.

Re: ARTICLE: Brady extends Preston stay
I think with Brady after the injury he kept coming back and picking up niggles here and there and it probably got to him mentally, but before that injury he was playing is best football for us .
Re: ARTICLE: Brady extends Preston stay
Good luck to the lad. He did his bit for us.
