City v Inter. The Purist Treble.
Posted: Sat Jun 10, 2023 8:30 am
by It Is What It Is
If City win tonight they will have achieved a Treble which no other English club has.
It will be a purist Treble as City qualified and entered this Champions league as Premier League Champions in 2021/2022 season.
When United claimed to have achieved The Treble 1999, they entered their Champions League campaign by qualifying as just being runners up to Arsenal in 1997/98 season, not as EPL Champions.
So, tonight will be aTotally Purist Treble by City should they win.
United's will always be tainted as they never qualified as EPL Champions...just runners up.

Considering the way that City are run, who they're owned by and the list of charges pending against them I don't think anyone will consider it a purist treble.

A game, like most games not featuring Burnley or a Burnley interest, that I won’t be bothering to watch.

I also read this earlier:
To watch the game on TV, you will need a subscription to BT Sport. However for fans who are not signed up to BT Sport, you can still watch the Champions League final via YouTube.
BT Sport are showing the finals of all three European competitions live on YouTube for all to watch.

I don't really care whether a side qualifies as champions or not. I think it's more relevant that United named 10 British players (9 english, 1 welsh) to the match squad, most of which came from their youth team.
As a little game, without googling how many of the british players in the 1999 squad can you guys name? (2 of them played for us)

Not that I care for the comparison between United and City’s potential treble winning achievements - but City named 8 English players in their squad when they faced Madrid in the semi final.

David May & Andrew Cole are the two players that played for us

Schmeichel
Irwin
Johnsen
Stam
Neville
Beckham
Scholes
Butt
Giggs
Yorke
Cole
I think I’m almost there but definitely not bang on.
Edit - missed the British element of the question

Gary Neville
Phil Neville
Nicky butt
Ryan giggs
Andy Cole
David beckham
Teddy sheringham
Jonathan greening?
Luke Chadwick?
Paul scholes was suspended along with Roy Keane for that final, which makes the win even more remarkable

Didn’t Blomqvist end up starting that game for Utd?
I realise he’s not British but he seemed an odd inclusion for such a game but would tie in with Keane & Scholes being suspended.

Yes he did. Interestingly, 10 out of the 11 starters for Bayern Munich were German.

Prediction: Inter to win. They play the best one-touch football in the final third that you'll see in all of Europe. City will become frustrated as the game goes on being favourites, Inter, being underdogs, will play without fear, they'll absorb the pressure and hit City with insane one-touch football that nobody in the PL plays.

Fair play to Milan for being brave enough to put a high press on City.
It’s really disrupting Citys’ buildup play.

Get Walker and Mahrez on. Their left back is the weak link. Ake looks shaky and Silva could have done better, so Ake & Silva off, Akanji to left defence, Walker and Mahrez to hit them where they will hurt.
Inter very clever.

they might come on at about 60 mins. City have been in control so far. Inter organised but i don't think they've threatened. City will breakthrough eventually.
