Anyone posters got some good sports achievements?
Mine are:
scoring a goal on the turf (old school clarets mad game, think I basically did a Nugent for England goal and stole it from Marv)
3rd at Skiddaw Fell race
10th, but just finishing was enough, at the fellsman 61mile ultra

Mine was having a goal nicked off me by the lesser known Wynne lad at the Turf.

Bowling Gary Kirsten, a player who has scored a ton against every Test country.
This was for Earby in Yorkshire against Great Harwood.

I won my age class in a national Orienteering competition, representing the school.
There was a fairly substantial monetary prize and the school took it!

1st finisher over age 60 in a local 10k race, with a time of 56m 01 secs.
I know - in absolute terms it’s no big deal, but I enjoyed it.

Craftsman’s cup (football tournament for all the REME units in Germany) winner in BAOR along with stubsy who’s on here. Will never understand how we came to win it…. We were absolutely smashed the night before every game.
2 Div (Army) cricket champions of which I was opening bat. Think Geoff boycott with a better accent but worse run rate.

Not my biggest sporting achievement but, as a Burnley supporter posting on this site, it was very satisfying to clean bowl two of rovers best players, Brian Douglas and Mike England.

Playing for town teams at football and table tennis at schoolboy level and turning down a trail for Rovers (which in all honesty I regret, just before Howard Kendall left for Everton).

1979 Army Championships Ten Pin Bowling. (When the sport was far more popular than now.) Colonel took me off a major NATO exercise in Germany and flew me to England to take part. Came 3rd in the singles out of 96 entrants from as far afield as Australia and Hong Kong. Colonel was well chuffed.
Still have the bowling ball, shirt, shoes and trophy. Football and snooker trophies long gone.

Beating tybfc and flixton 10 & 8 at the CM golf day with Mr Wynne…
Scoring back-to-back 180s
A break of 33 in snooker
My best though is probably running half a marathon in 1:26:30. If you’d have told me I’d do that a decade ago, I’d have laughed you out of town.

Had lots of great things in a long life of enjoying sport, but the best moment I think was my first (only) 50 at cricket. Albeit it was only local village cricket, but I wasn't a very good batsman

Winning the Combined Services Junior Breaststroke in 1972. My dreams of International competition were destroyed by the discovery of Booze, Fags and Women, all at tax free prices when I went to Germany so in effect I retired at 17. I won a few Tug of War medals at a good standard (an extremely hard sport) during the 1970's.

Forgot to add, in my mid 50's I could still do 100 lengths of Breaststroke in under an hour, that was after having major surgery to both shoulders.

Taught my sons golf. One is now a head professional at a top golf club in Florida the other won 3 ncaa collegiate events and The Florida Amateur Golf Championship aged 17. Played on the Canadian Tour as a professional but so far hasn’t made it to the main tour. No praise to me but watching them was my greatest achievement

3 Half marathon - 1.41- Southhampton
4 sitting on a paga crocodile - not sure this counts but a great adrenaline rush

Got roped into playing a charity match at my local cricket club, went in at 10 with my sceptical family watching we needed six to tie off the last ball and I launched their first team bowler out the ground and into the river. We lost the ‘super over’ but I’ve dined out on it ever since.
Ran 5k in 19:58, was seeing stars at the end.

6 for 18 for Lowerhouse 3rds vs Nelson
Fellsman, London Marathon and London Triathlon
Went 20 games unbeaten at pool in the Skyrack Pub in Leeds - going through the pub team twice in the process
But best (and worst) of all:
£10 fine and three week ban from the Burnley Table Tennis League for kicking a wall through at the Prairie during a semi-final doubles tournament. It was in the Burnley Express and my coach, the great Arthur Hartsorn, is probably still disappointed in me

Sports have given me some great times and great highs and lows - but definitely the most satisfying, although not the biggest, was finally officially cracking the 4-hour barrier for a marathon (Cape May, 2009, 3-52). I put this down to the fact that just before this event I spent two weeks back in England and got to see 4 Clarets games (Sheff Weds, B'Pool, Palace, Forest) as we pushed for the playoffs, drank far more beer than I should as a result of this, but got in several good runs in the wind along Fleetwood/Rossall seafront

1. Scored a goal on the Turf. Set up by dandeclaret.
2. Cycled from Lands End to John O'Groats.
3. Climbed Mount Kilimanjaro.
4. Did the national 3 peaks in 24 hours (on the hottest day of 2013).
5. Did the Yorkshire 3 peaks in 12 hours (on the hottest day of 2010!)
Not sure those last four are considered as sport, but still proud of them. Raised over £20k for cancer charities and it's about time I thought up a new challenge.

Yorkshire 3 Peaks in 7 hours 55 mins in'68 or '69. Can't remember the temperature or even the month but my guess is April '69.
Last week of school term in '68, cricket team against staff, took a hat-trick with leg spin. Nice dry wicket, all bowled. Only played because the Ramsbottam lads finished the term either 1 or 2 weeks early. Wakes weeks back then.

1-0 up at half time but got beat 8-1 when they brought on the better players!

Took a hat trick at cricket, scored a hat trick playing rugby union and a treble hat trick playing football in the same year. Scored 5 in one game on the Turf in a team managed by Andy Lochead who said to me ‘Son, you can play’, 2 more on the Turf in other games, 2 at Villa Park, 5 at Leicester for Burnley fans v Leicester fans, 1 at Fulham in a Cup Final, and 2 at Stadium of Light. Biggest sporting highlight though is watching my son play hockey for Australia, cried my eyes out at the national anthem.

Long jumped 21’ 6” when I was 17 years old.
Played college football for a small school. When I was a freshman the junior varsity team which I was on played the prisoners at Joliet State Penitentiary famous from the movie The Blues Brothers. Obviously an away game for us.

Not exactly an accomplishment I know but a fun story.
Got an eagle on a par 5 last week. Still walking proud from that since I’m a pretty poor golfer.
