Mini submarine missing going down to Titanic wreck.
British Billionaire on board, lost contact after 1hr 45 mins on its way down
Doesn’t sound good at all

It’s an awful story.

Hope by some miracle it ends well.

As an aside California Colner - are you in California or Colne?

2 miles down, 96 hours oxygen on board.

The only chance is that they lost radio power and are surfaced somewhere, and even then (have you seen how small it is?)

As pointed out in the above tweet, it would be about 13 tonnes of cable just to get down to the level of the Titanic

Its the stuff of nightmares really, I have anxiety just thinking about being in that thing.

There's nothing more dangerous than the ocean

Wasn't this sub the reason the initial surviving sailors on the Kursk couldn't be rescued in time, as the Russians had diverted it to tourist duties?

May be totally wrong, if so advanced apologies.

Yep I read on Sky News earlier that they have around 2 days left to find them.

That would make it over 20 years old. This sub was made in 2015.

Apparently even if it gets to the surface they can't get out, as it is bolted from the outside.

The frightening thing about all of this is that the sun is not even approved by any worldwide regulatory body and that paying customers have to sign a waiver giving up all their rights should they wish to travel on it…crazy that this has not been shut down before now!

Awful situation but they also knew the risks they were taking. The whole trip needs questioning. Who pays for this massive search operation ?

Don't really get all the hysteria around this.

Yes its awful to those involved but to put it in perspective, if a light aircraft comes down with 5 people on board, you're not really gonna hear much of it.

Is there a technical reason they don’t have some kind of tracker? (Don’t expect you personally to know btw, just throwing it out there)

I think it’s the fact that they could still be alive and that it’s linked with the Titanic.

It's a bit like that missing Malaysian plane, or when someone gets stuck in a cave. You can't help but picture the terror.. but also it's mostly the unknown that has a grim fascination. At the moment, those poor folks are like Shrodingers billionaires..

I think there was mention in the original post of a British billionaire being on board so I’m sure he’d be happy to cover the costs if they manage to get him out.

‘I’d imagine ‘ that the coverage is because many are fascinated by The Titanic story. Collectively sounds like they’ve paid nearly £1 million to go on the trip. Think of all the useful good that could have done.

There was recently a light aircraft that went down in the amazon jungle and the 2 adults on board died but the 3 kids aged 9,5 and 1 survived more than a month in the jungle before being rescued by the search party.

But that shouldn’t be the case and there should be some kind of insurances in place. However, as I have already pointed out, this craft is not approved by any regulatory body and so I hope and pray they get them out but the the authorities sue the arse off the company running these trips!

The people that survived in the jungle didn’t deliberately put themselves in danger. The fact that they were children and survived for so long was miraculous.

These people have put the selves in danger deliberately and no doubt feel invincible because of their wealth. Apparently the oil and Gas industry only use remotely operated submersibles now without humans inside due to the risks involved.

I don’t think we can start deciding who should be rescued and who shouldn’t. Do we not rescue anyone who is doing leisure activities on the sea? Divers, swimmers, fishing trips etc. I understand , given the money involved that you’d feel this way and I agree that they should do the right thing and fund the rescue via their insurance or own pocket. Just hope they can get them out.

Mr Burns tried it once but the townspeople put a stop to it.
Pink Floyd also set the controls to the heart of it but I don't think that was a package holiday.

Well no, just like everyone who is in peril on the sea, they should be rescued if at all possible, and that cost should be paid for by the tax payer/charities as any other rescue

That applies to all, and that includes refugees AND rich idiots in tiny submersibles

One of the maddest things is that the sub is bolted shut and only an external team can get it open, so if they have surfaced, they can't even get out!

They are in something that if something goes wrong 14,000 feet down, there is no way of saving them and a tiny bit of research would find that out

Ticks every definition of "idiot" for me

(but it goes without saying that I hope they are on the surface with a non-working radio and get rescued)

Any adventurer could be called an idiot then. Nimsdai Purja climbed the 14 highest peaks in record time and could’ve died at any point. It’s a brilliant watch. IOM TT riders etc. Have you never taken an unnecessary risk in your life? Apart from engaging on political threads on here obviously :-). The world would be a boring place if these people didn’t take the risks that they do.

Of course, I've scuba dived in Turkey (where health and safety are very clearly optional) - ended up with me and the instructor sharing a respirator on the top of sunken wreck as my air tank ran dry

I guess its just from my perception, this sounds like rich people on a jolly, while Nimsdal Purja (as someone who climbs mountains I'd love to climb) is a hero

I'm not sure I'd put them in the same category tbh. Having the disposable income to go on what is essentially a very expensive tourist attraction is hardly Captain Scott stuff.

I think its worth mentioning that they are idiots from my point of view, as I'd never do anything like that as it sounds daft!

Quite a comparison between a bloke who went through the Gurkhas and the SAS, where he was a cold weather warfare specialist, doing something he'd seemingly worked his whole life towards and some blokes getting drilled into a small tin van controlled by an off-brand Xbox controller, don't you think?
