There are some great walks on the hills above Todmorden. Can anyone spot Dobroyd Castle (which, among many other things, used to be a Buddhist Centre).

Re: Summer photographs
My photos above were taken using a phone (Google Pixel 6).
I have had to compress the files as the originals were far too big. Then I looked at the performance data and the phone came back with some astonishing numbers. One of the pics was took at f1.9. 1/1885. 6.81mm. ISO 42.
I have a compact digital camera which is a decent model with a large sensor (Sony RX100 lV). It comes nowhere near the phone.
However, neither have any real optical zoom. A top of the range DSLR would need to have those huge lenses you see the press using at sports events. These cost well into the Β£000's. I have a Lumix bridge camera with 60x zoom which does a job if you aren't wanting professional results.
Is there any reason to have a digital camera when you have the better option already in your pocket?

You might have the same model as me with the 60x zoom. FZ82?Dressinggown wrote: βSat Aug 26, 2023 8:48 pmI have a Lumix bridge camera with 60x zoom which does a job if you aren't wanting professional results.
More than adequate for most amateur uses. You lose some of the sharpness at high zoom rates but it's good enough for most. I've taken some wildlife shots with it that I'm very happy with

The phones will only get better as the major manufacturers compete to be the best in all areas when a new model arrives.Bosscat wrote: βSat Aug 26, 2023 9:13 pmI have a Canon Powershot SX60 HS Bridge camera but rarely use it apart from holidays ... We were over at Mums, in Germany for Christmas many years ago. She gave us a dessert from her rumtopf and it was superb.
Decided to get one for home. followed the instructions, fruits as they are in season and keep covered in rum. Went for it Xmas day, it was foul. Never got used again but made a nice vase.

Bosscat if LP is Long Preston, just spent the weekend at Gallaber Park. Had a grand time, a couple of pints in the Boars Head, and a meal in the Maypole.
A lot easier drive to the match as well.
