Next season's fundraising - would like your thoughts

For the past three seasons we've been raising funds for the foodbank and it's proved to be very successful with around £4,200 raised from the First Goal Sweep, Fantasy Premier League and, in 2020/21 season, Last Man Standing.

Two questions to ask.

1 We will be continuing with the above in 2023/24 but do you have any thoughts on other ways of raising funds?
2. Do you think we should continue raising the money for the foodbank or do you think we should opt for a different charity?

I think the foodbank is the way to go. It's a really clear, simple way of directly helping people. And let's be honest, the need for foodbanks is only going to increase as time goes on.

Sadly, foodbanks don't look like they are going to disappear anytime soon. So, as I have for the last couple of seasons, I would gladly continue to support the foodbanks as best I can. Far too many needy people in the UK currently but my contribution is so adults and children have something inside their bellies.

Happy to continue to support the foodbank, as has been mentioned above, it will need continued support over the coming months.

A few money raising ideas below:

1. Grand National Sweepstake
2. Euro 2024 Sweepstake
3. Dinner/football auction event
4. Raffle (prizes relating to match tickets/BFC merchandise)
5. Football Quiz (pay to enter half of prize pot to winning team, other half to foodbank)
6. Super Six League (pay to enter)
7. Make Guess the Gate a £5 or £10 entry per player for the season (the winner as in the quiz gets half the money with the other half being donated to the foodbank).

I think that continued support for the Foodbank is preferable and I'm sure that lots and lots more could be raised if only the Club would acknowledge and support the collections. Other options to consider could be East Lancs Hospice and Pendleside Hospice.

If the fundraising for the food bank was stopped, would the tin collections continue?

The two are not connected other than me being heavily involved in both.

The question wasn't loaded at all but just getting thoughts. Certainly it looks as though foodbank fundraising remains the way to go from the initial comments and thanks claretburns for some other ideas.

No problem, in terms of the quiz, I have done these before so down the line if this is something you would be interested in doing then I would be happy to create a quiz and it can be done from the comfort of your own home as long as participants can access YouTube and have access to a smartphone/tablet for the quiz app.

From a purely selfish point of view would it be possible to help raise money for Alzheimer’s research, they survive with very little backing from the government (if at all) while they are looking for ways to slow this awful disease down as I'm sure it will be nigh on impossible to eradicate.

Not that I want to take anything away from the food banks, which I donate both time & money to each month.

Fundraising for the foodbank would be my first choice, although I would want a firm guarantee that 100% of every penny raised on this website gets turned into food or toiletries, and isn’t diverted elsewhere within community projects, such as Leisure Box or Whitehough Residential Centre.

I would also be more than happy for us to do some separate fundraising for another charity, and the Alzheimer’s suggestion is a good one. Maybe if we did a few small things throughout the year, then we could have a side pot of this?

Darren - Not selfish at all. A great suggestion.

On a personal note, and CTID knows why it is for me, this is a charity close to my heart.

I think the general consensus is to raise funds for the foodbank but it might be an idea to have an event of some kind to raise funds for another charity.

Food bank for me gets my vote. A worthwhile cause.
Pendleside Hospice is on my list of good causes, mainly for personal reasons.
Any event that brings us as message board posters and contributors closer together gets my vote and if we can raise funds for another charity, all the better for it.
Hope this helps.

1 Alzheimer’s
2 Pendleside Hospice
3 Anything that helps sick children

Like the idea of sweepstakes or charity dinner/auction as mentioned above.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and ideas up to this point.

I think we can confirm that we can continue raising money for the foodbank with the First Goal Sweep and Fantasy Premier League. We can then consider other initiatives from there.

Agree with this approach. Important to keep the foodbank support in place.

I’ve no suggestions for anything new but whatever is decided I’m more than happy to give it my full support. The food bank scheme has been brilliant by the way and well done to everyone involved that have given up their time to do it.
