Happy Tour de France Eve everyone!!

TdF wheels out of Bilbao tomorrow, for its prestigious Grand Départ. A hilly stage to open with, as opposed to a TT like we often see.

Clearly looking like a straightforward head-to-head between Vingegard and Pogacar.

I’m all in on Jumbo, so Vingegard gets my backing. I’d really really love to see Thibaut Pinot have a great Tour: he’s absolutely awesome and frankly deserves more success.

Also interested to see if Pidcock can push on. His descents alone make tuning in worth it.

Stages 9,10 and 11 are in my neck of the woods, a part of the route of 11 passes about 5km from my house, going to get on that with the Burnley top.

I love watching the mountain sections, ok there is drug abuse revelations, but the scenery and the cyclists taking on the climbs is brilliant viewing.

I think that he’ll be given the Champs if he hasn’t won a stage by then, the Peloton is a competitive but respectful beast. Cav wont want that though, he will be all out to get it early but I’ve gone for stage seven for his win.

Ben O’Connor winner for me (got in At 80’s) with Pidcock top five.

Agree with Thibaut, hope he has a magnificent ride. Stage thirteen on Bastille day would be a great way to bow out.

Agreed. Nobody gifts the Paris finale. Sadly for Cav his best chance slipped him by t’other year when on a stage made for him his team let the breakaway have too big a lead.

He will get his win on one of the flat stages so it won’t be an issue.

No one gifts it, but teams can be ordered, individuals can disrupt.

I saw WVA against Pidcock at the World Cup cycloX in Dublin. Never has monster been more apt. He was dropped a couple of times, by mechanicals, and very quickly got back on. On the final lap he left Tom for dead.

Pogacar broke his wrist in April which impacted his build up to the tour. The TDF finds you out if your not 100% ready.

Wout is amazing, I love him. His power and drive is unbelievable. Have you seen ‘Tour de France Unchained’ on Netflix?

He was wanting to take mountain stages off his own Jumbo GC riders last year. He’s an absolute winner.

Cav needs to find his moment; I’d be gobsmacked if anyone backed down and why should they?

They wouldn’t individually, but sentiment and goodwill travel quickly though the peloton.

Defend with Yates? No.

It's all about Pogacar for Team UAE.

They might try and keep Yates around Pogacar a bit more if there are any doubts over Pog's wrist

That’s true but it’s a bumpy day tomorrow also and, traditionally, the yellow jersey team lead the chase after any breakaway to keep the jersey. There is money for every day you wear any jersey. UAE might not be bothered, as you suggest.

Please please please can we not turn this thread, FOR THE NEXT THREE WEEKS, into a thread about the rights and wrongs of gambling? I have been more vociferous than anyone about gambling sponsorship and endorsements, on here over the last three years or so…but never questioned anyone’s right to make a bet, enjoy a bet and share their wins or losses. If people want to talk about their wins, that’s fine with me and can I ask that we don’t have a go at them for not posting other selections. We all know how it works…win some, lose some.

Let’s keep this about the riders, the bikes, the jerseys, the teams, the sprints and the mountains.

I respect your right to advocate the pitfalls of gambling, shouldn’t you also respect ours to be open and honest about winning/losing should we choose to be?

One post asking about losers and me happily sharing that info doesn’t mean that people are having a go. Seems a little pre-emptive in my opinion.

Happy to chat around this rather than it turn into an argument.

That’s a very well-made point. My inference from WW was that it was a little dig at the fact that you were not posting your losing bets and I apologise for that if it wasn’t. Like I’ve said, I have no objection to people talking about it. I just don’t want people falling out over it. Apologies if people felt judged too quickly.

That said, I would now like to take issue with you about your comment about me not respecting your right to discuss your bets. When have I ever alluded to the fact that this should not be permitted? And in fact, in the very post you have quoted me on, I have talked about the fact that I have no issues whatsoever with people posting their wins or their losses. Phenomenal sprint from a full kilometre / kilometer out to win today's stage.

Flicking between F1 / Golf / Ashes and Tour de France managed to catch all the critical bits .
