Twitter - “Rate Limit Exceeded”

Is anyone else getting this message?

Where has this come from?

It’s making Twitter into a really frustrating and poor experience. Once you get that message you can’t refresh or see anything for ages.

Does anyone know if there’s anything can be done to resolve this?

Twitter is down I think.
Much to the delight, no doubt, of people who worry about who has a blue tick or not

Musk has tweeted you can "temporarily" now only view 600 posts a day. A fine way to kill Twitter.

Interesting

When you click on the link two posts above, twitter works perfectly fine

Work one works perfectly fine as well

Can't see that lasting though with what Space Karen has posted though

Hope he doesn’t get any ideas about keeping it that way and introducing fees. Twitter will die on its ass if that happens. I like Twitter for following things that interest me . It’s full of idiots but you can avoid them if you follow the right folk and avoid going down rabbit holes.

Musk has destroyed what was a fine form of media.

It was an efficient, insightful platform - often my first choice for news from journalists on the ground of whatever situation was happening anywhere in the world. It took little effort to find someone knowledgeable and articulate about literally any subject.

Musk had the best writers, the most famous profiles, the funniest comics all contributing on their own time for free. Ironically, you just cannot buy that sort of content.

Now it's a wasteland of fake news, conspiracy theorists, peddlers of extreme views, and utterly bland repetitive memes - all decorated with the pathetic, flimsy veneer of the blue tick.

When it talks about viewing 600...is that actually clicking on the tweets....I most have scrolled past 600 and more but only clicked on a couple and my feeds are still working fine

If people are going anywhere near the suggested usage limits imposed I'd look to be getting some sort of a hobby.

For all the changes (I’ve yet to see an improvement among them), Twitter remains the best place to keep in touch with experts in all manner of fields. I haven’t opened my Facebook account for five years, I got utterly sick of the inane chit chat on it.

If you scroll down the thread on my last post, the bloke suggests that its just a web browser issue, so if you are on your phone then you should be ok

It would certainly explain what's happening
I never use the web browser, or Twitter app....just other apps on phone or tablet, and so far they are working normally...fingers crossed

If you scroll through them and you've got say 1000 followers or you follow 1000 people, not very long

You've been scrolling footy transfers for an hour in the afternoon. You've reached your limit inside that hour (not too hard to scroll past through 600 tweets in an hour, hour and a half if you scroll past tweets that are just emojis and one-word tweets). A bomb goes off, or there's a massive fire, or some other horrible thing, and the emergency services are referring people to twitter for updates on advice on where to go, where not to go, what to do, what the hell is happening, aaaaand oopsie, you've reached your limit today, soz, you can't get emergency updates. But it's okay, because it's a private business, and private businesses should be able to do what they want, on a whim, without notification — even to ignore the social responsibilities that come naturally when an organisation is operating at such a scale with so many stakeholders invested the platform the business provides. The free market will sort it out, right, and if people's lives are materially affected by the caprice of this business' moronic owner, it it's just a growing pain, it'll be resolved by market forces, it'll be reyt, stop being soft, it's only a terrorist attack, people die every day, isn't Elon brilliant, a genius, saviour of mankind.

I'm beginning to think Elon Musk might actually be the dumbest human being on earth.

Burnley send a tweet out with 30 replies, you scroll through them that’s 10% of your daily allowance gone. England take a wicket against Australia, you scroll through and that’s your daily allowance gone.

Musk is running that platform into the ground.

Im hoping this is as temporary (ie just today) as his tweet claims. Otherwise I simply cannot understand any business case of losing most of your traffic to a platform which makes money from having high volumes of traffic.

Why don't you see it as a positive, if you're viewing 600+ posts each day I feel you'd benefit from putting down your phone and doing something productive! Like messaging more on here 🤣

Twitter is horrible, as mentioned in a previous thread.
Yesterday I watched a video of TalkSport clip, and scrolled to the next video, which was CCTV footage of a family being executed.

But apparently, thats my fault because it's my algorithm.

Never use that ‘For You’ tab.

You must be viewing some sketchy stuff to see things like that…

Anyway, never mind, you won’t be able to view anything now (unless you pay up - free speech!) as the current owner is systematically destroying the site through a toxic mix of ego and sheer ineptitude.

Sounds like an Elon fanboy thing to justify his increasingly shitty actions. Weird how Twitter didn’t need to any of this before his ownership.

Also he’d already bloated it with tonnes of ads.

Not sure that’s the case. I never watched any snuff video’s previously but now when scrolling videos it’s all that appears to be next on the feed. I report every single one as not appropriate for social media and every report comes back as not violating rules of Twitter.

I’ve inadvertently watched heads being blown off in a car (video that starts funny but then ends up with a gun waved about and going off accidentally); people being obliterated by cars/vans/trucks/buses; gang rapes (only once on a cctv feed); robbery gone wrong with guns. It’s too much. Like I said I report every video that is gory and wrong, but now… can’t be arsed with trying. Twitter is diseased beyond repair. Pandora’s box is wide open and they can’t get the toothpaste back in the tube with a shovel.

Fair enough, I must have been lucky - I just get a load of alt right dickheads in my For You feed.

He has utterly ruined the site. Sacked all the engineers so the coding is crumbling at the seams, hasn’t paid for the storage etc, ruined the verification system so fast moving news events are now just dominated by his blue check acolytes, and now this.

Penny for the thoughts of anyone who at least partially makes a living out of maintaining a highly popular Twitter account.

Try using something other than the official twitter app.....no adds...no videos just posts from those you follow, and at the moment no restrictions, certainly for just scrolling, I don't open that many tweets but 100s are loaded just on the page searching..Burnley...

Twitter was a major news source. The critical mass of news providers has diminished to the extent that the platform no longer has momentum around breaking news stories. It's hardly worth bothering with. Too much dross and dodgy content to wade through.
