After a bit of advice, I need to replace my tyres, first time in 2 years and have found my locking wheel nut is not there, neither is the code anywhere in my hand book. Apparently the code is printed on the top of the wheel nut key, perfect if you loose it. I have a vauxhall grandland x. I have phoned vauxhall who tell me without the code there is no way of getting the correct key/lug for it. They are the type that have 4 pins that slot into 4 holes and are apparently some of the more difficult ones to remove. If any body has any ideas on how to remove them please let me know.

Speak to a local tyre fitters or workshop, they'll possibly have a universal kit for it

Failing that, it would require some brute force and swearing to get them off.

I've smashed a socket onto them before after removing the spinning outer rim/cover

If you let them know, the fitter should have (or bring if you go for the mobile option) a kit to get them off by brute force (at a cost).

As long as it's not the type of locking nut that spins freely then there's a couple of ways to get them off. Managed to get all 4 of the nuts off Mrs C:s car.

Either get an old socket that is just slightly smaller than the nut and jam it on with a lumo hammer or similar. A 12 point socket is preferabl, but a 6 point may also work Don't whack it on too far or the socket may split.

That should work unless a previous garage has tightened the nut to biblical levels, which may cause the socket to just slip off.

If that happens then just search for "Locking wheel nut remover" and there's a whole bunch of tools you can get, all of which are a variation of a socket with and ant-clockwise internal thread. Same principle, bang them on tight and they will tighten onto the nut.

I managed with an old socket on 3 wheels but the last wheel must have been tightened by Hercules himself but one of the dedicated tools got it off.

I had the exact same issue the other week. I had to go to Halfords and buy a whole new set for £30 and then pay the local garage to me £10 to take each one off

Have you contacted the Company where you had the tyres fitted 2 years ago, they may well have the locking wheel nut or certainly may be able to help you.

I bought the car 2 years ago and the garage claims to know nothing about the locking wheel nut.

Rossendale Vulcanising, in Crawshawbooth, should be able to help.

Spot weld a socket on. 2 people 2 wire coat hangers into the radio slots together and remove. The code is usually on the top . Definately thief proof btw. Lol.
