Bit weird the press conference, however could you envisage a time when A I plays a major role in the game, not sure if it will be a robot running around but who knows. Can you visualise a time when a pampered Prima Donna roles around and the official says get up you mard arse human or words to that effect.
If A I does come more into the game surely VAR will be the first beneficiary, perhaps the techy posters can expand how it could be utilised.

AI is going to be playing a major role in everything soon.

What is it about the human race and its quest to make itself obsolete?

IMO it’s not the human race’s quest but the quest of the elite who don’t want to rely upon mere minions for their standard of life.

In the true sense of the term AI, we are not using it yet. Computers are not self aware. They have been programmed with, in some cases, incredibly complex data and given a huge set of parameters but they do not think for themselves they just choose from the programming they have to make a decision. Or so by son tells me. He reckons it's a bit like nuclear fusion....just around the corner ;)

A few pundits have artificial intelligence.

I’d be surprised if ‘AI’ isn’t being used in preparation for football matches already. And I’m sure it’s already being used in the business side, particularly retail and commercial, dynamic pricing for example.

The last decade or so has seen the rise of data analytics in football. It’s only one step away to add Machine Learning (a subset of AI) to that dataset for teams to see potential trends in how tactics play out in a match. A bit like using Football Manager to simulate lots of results, but learning from actual real life data.

This would help managers to see potential tactical scenarios in a match and help the team train for those, a bit like what Connor Roberts said recently about seeing situations play out in a match that he had been prepared for.

AI isn’t just about Skynet or robots playing football (both of which are a long way away imo) - it can also be about algorithms learning from historical data to simulate likely future scenarios to plan for.

Got to be - AI is everywhere, just different degrees of it. There hasn't been a Dance Music track in the last 30 years which hasn't been made on a computer, we have automated telephony systems with phoney voices - why not in football?

AI is also a misnomer… at the moment. The “intelligence” aspect is just data, and the programming is human still. I fear the day when it reaches critical mass and becomes self aware. Skynet is a real possibility now.
