Oh dear oh dear. Curated by someone who knows little to nothing about the Northern scene per se and absolutely nothing about the current scene.

Will be an interesting listen

'Curated by writer and broadcaster Stuart Maconie, the Northern Soul Prom is here to get you on your feet. With new orchestral arrangements by Joe Duddell and Fiona Brice, this stomping celebration of British club culture brings a symphonic edge to the beats that took English towns across the industrial North and Midlands by storm in the 1960s and 1970s. What began as a celebration of forgotten American soul B-sides became a euphoric release at all-night dances for factory workers.

Some of the classic tracks being performed include ‘You’re Gonna Make Me Love You’, ‘Open the Door to Your Heart’, ‘It Really Hurts Me Girl’, ‘Hold Back the Night’, ‘Time Will Pass You By’ and ‘Just Like the Weather’.

Bet they could belt out a good version of Afternoon of the Rhino too

Watched a full 2 and a half hours of The Kinks. I knew all their big hits but it was interesting to see the diversity of their music over a 40 year period. Ray Davies wrote dozens of songs and was shown performing at different venues and with other talented musicians.

Scepticism misplaced IMO. Was a great production and a great atmosphere created by everyone there. Watch it and make your own mind up 26th August.

I’ve already listened to some of it and to be fair, overall, thus far, it has been better than I thought it would be. A bit patchy in places and some renditions sounded a bit cheesy but what I feared would be a horrible travesty has been pretty decent.
