Burnley 11 based on career success

I don't know where this came from, probably the lack of live football, but I started thinking about some of the players we've had over the years who either had great success before or after they were with us. It ended with me trying to come up with a Burnley 11 based solely on players career success, rather than success with us. We've had Premier League winners and Champions League winners, as well as regular Internationals. This was my attempt, based on players I've seen in my lifetime (I've gone for a 352 and Trippier is playing the Kyle Walker role for England!). Imagine this 11 when all players were at the height of their careers!!

Joe Hart
Kieran Trippier - Gary Cahill - David May
Aaron Lennon - Steven Defour - Danny Drinkwater - Gazza - Chris Waddle
Ian Wright - Andy Cole

In my time of watching the Clarets (mid 70's when very young onwards) I wouldn't have Drinkwater anywhere near. He had a couple of good seasons at Leicester and nothing else. Trevor Steven had far more success over a much longer period.

John Connelly might be in with a shout, based on the honours. Two time 1st Division winner and World Cup winner.

Lee Dixon would surely have to be in there?

Steven and Dixon are before my time. I can remember them for other clubs and for England, but I never saw them in a Burnley shirt. Drinkwater was the last player I put in. I was desperate to think of a left back but couldn't come up with an answer.

Steven gets in but I’d have Trippier ahead of Dixon

I would have Dixon ahead with his league titles, fa cup wins and the cup winners cup, then I think of his commentary and lean towards Trippier :D

In terms of achievement then you are right, it has to be Dixon.

If you’re looking for a winger I’m sure Tony Morley will trump Aaron Lennon. A league championship and European Cup winner.

No fan in their 60s would omit the great Ralph coates

Chris Waddle would likely get in.

Edit - can now see OP included him.

Gordon Cowans won the European Cup with Villa too.

Peter Crouch played in the Champions League final, and scored twice as many England goals as Wright and Cole combined

So frustrating at Burnley, you could see the talent but it just didn't happen for him. Brian Miller used to call him a Monday morning footballer, meaning he looked to have everything on the training ground but couldn't transfer it to the pitch. Then he went to Villa, a much better side than us, and his career took off.

Yes, but Wright and Cole won League Championships and various cup competitions.

Not exactly an all time great in a Burnley shirt but what about Gabor Kiraly, over 100 caps for Hungary

Mike Phelan must have had a few honours at Man Utd. FA Cup, League Cup. Their first couple of Premier League wins?

Luke Chadwick has a Premierleague medal let that sink in.

terrific career all round, just not after he'd fallen out with Coyle at Burnley.

Micky left United in 1994 and turned us down so was there for the first two Prem seasons. He's recognised for having won a medal in the first of them.
