No new date as yet but I would think the league will push for it as early as possible, maybe an early midweek date.

Hopefully ASAP but after they’ve had a few home games.

Pathetic by them and now by the time we play Villa they will have had 3/4 competitive games while we’ll have had one (battering) against City weeks before.

Better not to have to play them on their first home game in the premier league IMO.

Doesn’t seem to matter who’s in charge of Luton.
Poxy, tinpot club.

How do you work that out?
Edit - I understand now. I read Villa as Luton for some reason

Means burning through disproportionately more home games for us at the start of the season. Hopefully we have a decent start!

Villa have GW2 and Europa game.

It means other clubs will play on August 19th or thereabouts before they have got their full squad together, while we (and Luton) delay this match until after the window shuts. Fine by me. And while we have to play everyone home and away, for choice I wouldn't play a promoted team on their first home game.

God forbid the Premier League & sports broadcasters could just have left Luton alone until they move to their new stadium.
Every single thing they are building now in the existing stadium will be bulldozed in the not too distant future.
Utterly pointless and unnecessarily disruptive.

And by the way, given the state of their stadium this surely can't come as surprise to anyone.

No point getting angry about it, we can’t change it, but that doesn’t stop it being ridiculously frustrating that their inability to fulfil a fixture will make our start less than ideal.

Why can't we play the home game against them first?
I know it would make a bit of a mockery of the fixture list, but surely better than not at all?

Three times since 2016 we've been the victims of issues
2016: Liverpool switched because Anfield wasn't ready
2020: Didn't play the first week because Man U got an extra week
2023: Luton, same as Liverpool but this time no switch

Any idea on the reason for no switch? Interesting that it was accommodated for Liverpool.

I think we were pushed into it for Liverpool but I believe we were very much against any switch of this fixture. For a start, it would have seen us kicking off with four home games.

With terracing, they give a promoted club 3 years to make the alterations. Surely it would be common sense to allow newly promoted clubs (including non-league with their ground grading regulations) the summer to get their ground plan of action sorted, and a year's grace before they need to get everything sorted. It's not as if TV pictures from Luton were unwatchable and PL standards is going to make a vast difference.

Always going to happen, which leaves us the first 4 games at home. It could be good, it could be a disaster, either way it shouldn't be happening.

Because Vincent doesn't want to be playing them at their ground in the Winter.

Does it matter?
It can be argued that it would be just as tricky playing them at their place in their first home game.

Their pitch isn't the best, so he doesn't want to play them when it may be heavy etc

I'd have thought a pitch would have to be a certain standard at this level.

I understand Burnley were quite happy to switch to a mid week game because it would be easier for them to cope with managing the new loyalty points system with a mid week game at Luton

I just don’t understand why they’re fine in the championship but not premier league… it’s just a pitch, play it as normal until they’re ready

They've said that lots of the stuff that they are doing is with a view to it being moved to their new stadium.

Sweet said ahead of the play offs that it was in effect dead money. But they’ve known for well over a year what needed doing. Even we are having to do some work this summer because of new Premier League rules.

When we got promoted in 2009 we had to build new camera gantry’s and make extra provision for unemployed. We got on with it and paid the bill to avoid this unnecessary posigion

And a lot more work again in 2014 when we added the camera positions below the upper tiers of the two newer stands.
Clubs know what needs to be done.

Ground grading is a big issue at most levels of the pyramid until you get into the top four divisons .. then you get more leeway which is strange really . If their ground had failed at say level six or seven they’d have been refused promotion unless they’d arranged a suitable groundshare not given an extension into the following season .
Some of the requirements below the Non-league step 4 (or step 8 from our level down) are ludicrous given the size of the crowds involved

Makes sense really, on the Luton away thread people were talking about organising travel etc and I think some have already bought tickets. At least now we have a chance to organise better (as fans).

Exactly. It shows how the TV companies run football. It was good enough for Sky in the Championship.
Take the devil's money expext no concern about the club, and most importantly the fans.

They’ve known Kenilworth Road needed replacing since the 1980s and done nothing about it.
