Season ticket holders buying home game tickets

Post by FeedTheArf » Mon Jul 17, 2023 9:30 am

Hi,

I've just tried to buy a couple of extra tickets for Palace at home for my brother and nephew. I was under the impression that season ticket holders could buy 2 additional home games per ticket. I've tried to do that but an error message appeared saying I had booked 3 tickets for the game (my seat, plus 2 additional) and it wouldn't let me proceed.

Fortunately I had a friend's season ticket on friends and family so put one of the tickets under him. So the transaction went through in the end, but have I misunderstood the details?

I've done the same, it said I had 3 but they are counting my season ticket so don't know if that's right of a clitch so like you I used a friend and family season ticket with mine to buy the extra 2

It won't be working properly, but this way both of you got an extra 10 loyalty points each.

You would only get an extra 10 points, no matter how many extra tickets you bought for that game on your Clarets number.

You should be able to buy two with your season ticket but weren't they on sale last week to season ticket holders? I thought it was general sale today.

I think it was the 10th they went on sale to STH's, but you definitely can't buy an additional 2 as it counts your season ticket seat as one ticket.

Likely a glitch in the system then and it won't really matter for home league games with them going on general sale later today anyway. I just wanted to double check my understanding.

I'll still e-mail the club just incase it becomes an issue when buying cup games.

Just wondering about all this. I haven’t had a season ticket for years for reasons I won’t bore anyone with so I’m an ’occasional attendee’ and I would imagine there are many like me. If ST holders are allowed to buy two extra tickets, and given the number of ST holders we will have next season (sorry but I don’t know that figure) and also given that I believe the CF will be all away, how are ‘casual’ supporters supposed to be able to get tickets?
It just seems a little unfair somewhat. Not having a go at anyone because ST holders are a clubs mainstay but how are the club, or any club, going to grow if casual and/or new fans can’t get in? I struggled getting tickets last season sometimes, how much worse will it be next season?

Houseboy…

Whilst I agree somewhat in that it’s harsh on some, should you wish to pick a few games to attend, you will need to plan way in advance. Looking at the tickets this morning available, there aren’t many, first available game looks like start of November.

I think you're going to struggle, frankly, unless you jump on and grab one for the games you want now

i bought two tickets but had to use my season ticket for one and daughters or the other. I think they are now saying two tickets for season ticket holder but your season ticket is one so its one per season ticket.

On a slightly different take on this don't think I've ever seen such demand for tickets, games against the big teams are sold out and even games like Luton have the odd single.

You can if you go into the ticket office - but then, strangely, not online.

There is an issue with it, I called the ticket office last week, it says season ticket holders can purchase 2 additional tickets but it counts the season ticket as one, so doing it over the phone with ticket office worked

So it works over the phone and at the counter - so basically, the online system isn't working as publicised.

This whole new ticket system is a shambles.
I suppose someone must benefit, but certainly not most.
I bought a membership, so I could get 2 extra tickets, to find out that my ST would count as 1 of the 2.
The biggest issue though, is selling all the tickets now. My brother comes over from Ireland to take a match in 2 or 3 times a season. What makes it doable, is getting the cheap flights early, and the old points system that guaranteed him a ticket. To sell tickets so far in advance means travel arrangements need to be left until after the TV dates are announced. This makes travel more difficult and more expensive.
The many fans that have sat around me in JHU, from Norway, Denmark, Iceland will now have the same problem.

I prefer the old system to this, on ticket sales, but at the very least tickets shouldn't be sold until the fixture date and time are confirmed.

Yes it’s going to be a struggle really. I usually go with my daughter which basically rules out evening games (that is a whole other problem given the ridiculous kick off times in the PL). Given the (I think) higher expectations next season since we were last in the PL tickets are going to be like gold dust apart from maybe a midweek game against the likes of Bournemouth or Luton.
Still, there’s still the telly box.

Similar but different problem. I've encountered today.

We're unable to attend the Villa game and my son in law and grandson (8)
are going instead. However, I needed to "upgrade" my senior's ticket to full adult.

I've discovered that it can't be done online, only over the 'phone or in person. Happy
ending - upgraded on the 'phone for total cost of £5 !!!!! Bob Lord stand.

Not wanting to go off topic on financials, but why would you be against the club getting money in early?
Our owners would have to likely borrow more at high interest if we didn't.

I'll hit the roof if they've sold my season ticket seats to general sale again, happened 3 times last season despite the club being adamant it wasn't possible. I checked the ticket and they definitely had sold my seat on each occasion. I've already got anxiety about that first game back when no doubt my season ticket card wont scan again either, I had unbelieve bad look with tickets last season

If we were talking about a cost of millions you might have a point, but selling tickets at a later date, to allow for TV changes is a drop in the ocean for Burnleys financial. The question here is about thinking of the fans, and the added cost it places on them, as well as the inconvenience. Fans that travel large distances to get to matches have a far bigger outlay than most. As well as travel costs, which increase the later it is left, there's time off work, unplanned if the game is moved.
We all applaud the clubs efforts to raise our profile, and revenue, we've been behind most clubs in this area, but this particular move isn't necessary or welcome.

You raise some good points houseboy.

I’m always one that wants to see every seat taken. If I were Chairman I’d give every unsold ticket to a child that otherwise wouldn’t get to go. I know loads of kids who love football but don’t get to go because their parents either can’t afford it or don’t have an interest in going themselves. Whenever I can’t make it I give my tickets away to them.

So I love seeing this demand and a bum on every seat, but equally every time a fan like you misses out on attending it’s an equally bad outcome for the club. You can’t grow if you can’t get more in to the habit of attending the Turf as you say. So if demand remains high this season, I’d like to see the club seriously considering capacity increases, even if it’s relatively low cost routes like rail seating or adding a few rows to the front of the BL/CFS.

More broadly the issue just is that fans have had it easy in the past where availability has always been good. You can decide in the morning you want to go & turn up and get a ticket. Now fans will have to be organised, plan ahead, buy early & work around any reschedules (unfortunately). This is no different to most PL clubs though. Fans I know who support other teams just can’t get a ticket at all without a ST and away tickets the absolute preserve of of those who go to every away.

Cup games should hopefully give those who want to get on a chance later in the season.

It's the only game we can book knowing that Sky will not be able to change it , now coming from overseas it's the best deal in town .

It's the only game we can book knowing that Sky will not be able to change it , now coming from overseas it's the best deal in town .

Hummm saying that the King decided to get crowned last season and we had to change things for out last game of the season
train strikes are my main worry as i cant drive and live away from the area

This season will be hard work for those without season tickets, but I agree that as soon as we aren't winning every week and getting a few hammerings interest will cool down, particularly if prices keep going up.

Looks like tying in a game with the occasional trip home is going to be a thing of the past. :(
It’s not like the old days bud when we used to meet in the Crown and turn up with cash.

 you are like me ....you forget you are one of those geriatrics as well, and as you look round at people you realise they are younger than you.😆
Amazing the number of times I refer to someone as ‘old’ then have it pointed out to me they are younger. My head is still twenty odd.

Not to be smug, but i saw this coming in February. It was clear i was going to have to either get a Season Ticket, and miss a few games, or see the odd game if i was lucky.
