Burnley's finest

After seeing the picture of Jimmy wearing his Burnley shirt I got thinking about Burnley's finest.

A lot of our "homegrown" players over the years have come from other areas of the country, northeast etc and then been brought through our youth system.

Who do you think has been the best player to pull on a Burnley shirt that was born in(around) the town?

I'm not old enough to know about most of our players in the sixties, but I imagine Miller would be up there.

Brian Miller obviously a strong candidate, but maybe he is eclipsed by Cliviger born England goalkeeper Jerry Dawson, who holds the record for the most Burnley appearances.

Jay Rodriguez and Harvey Barnes have 1 cap each, tohugh of course Harvey Barnes hasn't played for Burnley. (And his name doesn't begin with J.)

Five good reasons right there why “Jimmy Mac” should be our match day anthem. You know, like the bin dippers have “YNWA”, Stoke have “Delilah” and the stewards have “here, horsey horsey”…

My Grandad always tells me about James Hargreaves’s and how good he was, would have loved to have seen him play. Must be some player to get a stand named after you.

Had we not released him as a kid and he subsequently stayed with us his entire career Andy Payton would have gone on to be Burnleys all time record goal scorer.

Born at 15 Lennox Street in Worsthorne, moved to London when he was 10 in 1931 during the Great Depression (according to Wiki anyway).

You can have Nelson born Jimmy Hogan, but it's stretching it a bit to claim McIlroy, Mullen and Adamson as "local born"

For a small Town there are a lot you could describe as Burnley's finest, but when it comes to sport then Jimmy Anderson wins hands down.
