Is it Vinny or Vinnie?

Post by Spiral » Sun Jul 23, 2023 7:26 pm

He's been here over a year so it feels really embarrassing to ask this but I need to rip off the plaster and let it loose like a fart (mixed metaphors are better than segregated metaphors: get woke)...but...is it Vinny or Vinnie? I originally went with Vinnie, but then loads of people went with Vinny and I didn't want to come across like a total anarchist, so rather like a coward I stepped in line and went Vinny, but it still feels weird to me. Vinnie seems right. Vinny is like Larry, and Vinnie is not a Larry — he's a Vinnie. Now I'm at the point where I'm overthinking how to spell Vinn-y/ie such that I feel I'm degrading the humanity of Vinniye, the actual man to whom the name belongs. Also, sorry if this post has induced semantic satiation.

I promise I'm always this neurotic.

Oh Christy, this thread was supposed to clear it up, not make it worse. You are basically an arsonist.

Enlightened centrist: "both sides bad, both sides bad...the truth lies somewhere in the middle, which is where I am, because I'm above all extremes which means I'm better than you, you see. His name is *drumroll* Viniyie. What? Alright, calm down. God, why won't anyone compromise any more, nobody wants to compromise anymore, it's a little thing called ci-vi-li-ty *tuts*"

Missed opportunity to name the documentary something like that, just change Veni to Vini. Doesn't even matter if it doesn't make complete sense, the cleverness of the play on words carries enough weight to make up for it.

Folk have commented things like that before, but honestly I'm not him. I assume he got banned for something (probable some intense bigotry), which is a shame in a way, because when he wasn't talking like a National Front bellwipe, he was one of the most interesting posters to read on here.

Far from banned, there has been a thread asking for anyone hearing anything about him to let someone know. He was in a bad way having lost his studio flat (if memory serves me right) in Canterbury and he would be off for a couple of weeks when he was sorted… that was quite some time ago.

He's was active on his YouTube channel a couple of months ago.
