George Alagiah
The BBC newsreader George Alagiah has passed away after nine years of treatment for cancer.
Aged 67, GA was described as a " wonderful, lovely man".
Heard about his health concerns a few years ago but didn't know he was still affected.
RIP

RIP George,
He spoke here one year at the towns literary festival, was very well received.
Always on top of his job anchoring the news.

One of the good ones!
Re: George Alagiah
That’s very sad news indeed, a lovely man. Met him in Windermere a good few years ago when I was up there with a party of school kids…he took time out from filming for the Beeb to speak to the kids, posed for photos and autographs and was brilliant with them…RIP George
Re: George Alagiah
Not there yet but surviving 9 years with stage4 bowel cancer is testimony to him and his medical team. Cancer remains horrible but we are getting there and are there for many of the previous killers like childhood and many adult leukaemia's, most testicular cancers, many breast cancers.
Really liked George and at 67 it is no age and very sad, if not unexpected, news

Re: George Alagiah
One of our finest newsreaders and a proper journalist too , he was all over Africa with those terrible civil wars in Sierra Leone, Somalia et al . Never had him as a newsreader but glad he did as was excellent. To fight cancer for 9 yrs is some feat, brave man indeed .

One hell of a journalist, no airs or graces and he'd been through so many cultural changes in his life. What an exquisite human being the world lost today. Rest in peace George, with condolences to all Family and friends.

God bless you, George Alagiah. The tributes from your BBC colleagues gives a good indication how you led your life.
I'm told that you attended the church my mother-in-law also attended.
RIP

Brilliant journalist/newsreader and a great loss. If it is still available, it’s well worth reading his book “A passage to Africa”, published about 20 years ago.
