Bairstow has been an utter disgrace this series.

Yes he’s had one good innings but come on. This is where we need players to step up

Haven't caught much today but the last 15 mins.

Bloody hell though, is it a morgue down at the Oval? Literally no atmosphere at all and I can see some empty seats.

Atherton seems to have a knack of opening his trap too soon.

Suspect it would have been livelier had the series been 2-2. I think a lot of people are a bit deflated after being denied a series decider by the weather.

Reprieve for Woakes.

Why does the TV umpire check the front-on angle for inside edges? Almost every time they need to go to ultraedge to confirm. I don't understand why they don't go straight to ultraedge.

Good job we're not Australians, Down The Clarets messageboard would have imploded with the standard of catching seen today.

It buys the producer time to get the footage together.

I've a feeling a bowler like Broad or Wood might just go on a mad one here. Might get a 6 for 20 spell.

Woakes and Wood have done magnificently well there for us.

I think after the series is over we should be building exclusively for the series down under.

I’d be fobbing a few off for some more youngsters

Below par 1st innings from England, let down by powerhouse middle order batsmen all failing, they appear to lack concentration.

Crazy he was picked for this game , straight after the Old Trafford test and the Oval isn’t his favourite ground

Not a good day for England sadly as things stand. 3 or 4 quick wickets between now and close of play would change things, but we do look a bit flat out there at present.

Anderson has been picked with the expectation of a different outcome but unfortunately the same result so far in each test - just not threatening at all. Strange to see his bowling be so anodyne. Like watching a different player.

Clearly lacking rhythm and therefore confidence which is not a good combination for a bowler.

Strange day with all the extra bounce the Aussies got and then Wood gets an edge at 89mph that doesn't reach the keeper.

79.4 overs bowled in the day.

Even with the innings change that’s poor.

Apparently England are one of the worst culprits in Test cricket for slow over rates and they don't seem that bothered about speeding up.

Just need to fine the players 1% of their match fee for every over not bowled that is purely down to slow over rate and doesn't have mitigating circumstances, the over rate would soon improve trust me.

Need to scrap drinks breaks also, ridiculous on a day where it's about 17 degrees both teams break from play every hour for a drink. There are ample opportunities to get drinks to the players with natural breaks in play, wickets, reviews etc.

Heaven forbid if a fielding team member is that thirsty, he can even rotate down to fine leg and get one there..

Don't think fining the players is the answer. 5 penalty runs awarded to the batting side for each over not bowled would do the trick. And why walk off at 630 in the sunshine with overs to be bowled? The powers that be really need to look at this. At £70 ( ballpark) for a ticket, the paying public are being cheated!!

Johnny in my view hasn't played enough county cricket since is freak accident and that's why he shouldn't be behind the stumps for England as he is either rusty or is leg is still giving him issues as to why he didn't move when Joe pulled of a stunner of a catch but if he hadn't TV commentators would have been all over Johnny.
