Very watchable. Nice to get a goal from open play.

The professional women's game has improved remarkably over recent years. Far from perfect and a different product to men's football but the gap is certainly narrowing.

What gap? Didn't an u15 boys team beat the Australia international women's team 7-0 or something the other year? It's not close unfortunately far from it.

I’m not a big fan of women’s football, I’ll probably tune in if the England team make the semi finals. But this constant comparison about the gap to men’s football is soooooo tedious. Who cares? Smacks of insecurity to me.

The gap in technical standards.

You're absolutely right. Not the same product. I'd never suggest it is. Speed, strength, height, weight and a number of other issues will prevent it from ever being on an equal footing. I've never paid to watch a women's game. I probably never will. I don't think many will, either. The level of football that I have played at is miles above it and probably always will be.

It doesn't stop me from accepting how much it has improved. Good for them.

I think the game you're referrring to was FC Dallas U15'S. It was about half a decade ago or even further back in history.

Haha! Quality!

People getting upset about gaps is so tedious. Definition of insecurity.

Probably, like me, you're a bit 'meh' about it all. I just want to enjoy it for what it is.

I think it's very unfair to compare the ladie's game to the man's game. Accept it
for what it is or leave it alone. You have freedom of choice.

I for one, quite enjoy it and don't compare (or contrast) it to the man's game. Try it, you
may find that you enjoy it too. Good luck,.

Enjoy your day.

The reason the FA banned women for 50 years wasn't that the women were on a par with the men it was because they were attracting huge crowds and raising money for good causes - made the professional game look bad.

A decent standard non league semi pro side like Padiham,Colne,Nelson would destroy the best women’s team in the world double figures. We’re talking 20/30 goals.

If that’s aimed at me, I don’t mind women’s football it’s just the harsh reality they are nowhere near the standard of even a bang average male football player.

The "huge crowds" thing is a bit of a red herring. They had one gate of 55,000 and one of 35,000 but nothing else of that size, and a lot of that was "novelty effect". Dick, Kerr's Ladies played close to half their games against St Helen's Ladies because there were no other teams nearby of anything like a standard. There was no league structure or any competitive football at all.

It shouldn't have been banned, of course, but I suspect it genuinely was because the men of the FA believed it was unladylike and an unsuitable thing for women to do.

I always find it amusing that folk need to compare Mens and Womens sports and how they would fare against each other ...

There are obvious reasons why mens football and womens sports are on different levels ... physicality being the main one.

I am enjoying watching England ladies play in this world cup ... but wouldn't dream of trying to compare it to the mens game ... if you don't like womens sport
a, don't watch it and
b, for sure don't come on a thread and whinge about it.

🤣🤣🤣

The WWC has been good so far. Decent football.
There's no cheating, no moaning to the ref, no writhing about in fake agony and The Lionesses area decent side.
Go Lionesses!❤️⭐️⚽️🇬🇧

I think one of the main things was it had become linked to left wing politics/miners wage support - rather than non affiliated charity fund raising - so created waves - they just used the women's health as an excuse.

Well done the ladies .
For those blathering on about it “ being sh1t” “ miles off the men’s” etc , yes you’re 100% right ,BUT there’s multiple physical factors which can never be changed .

It’s a totally different product and should treated as such tbf.
It’s not a linear type sport like running , swimming , cycling ( where it’s simply a case of physical strength being the difference )

I mean we're all Burnley fans on here and have watched some real rubbish over the years but it's never been necessary to discuss on every thread when Burnley play how the players aren't as good as Messi.

The worst Burnley team ever would beat the best women’s team ever 40/50/60 depends how much effort they put in.

Why do we always compare the men & women’s game and say the women’s game isn’t upto the men’s standard?

Do you go to and u13s Sunday league game and say “well it’s not as good as Man City v Arsenal”?

It’s a different product. It’s not meant to be comparable

I play walking football which, because of the taking away of over physical contact, heading, running (well, sort of stopped it, tbh), tackling from behind etc., is able to have men and women playing in the same games. Skills are not the problem, I've played against some very skilful women (some of whom push the boundaries on the physicality too!)

Man City could probably beat our youth team 20-0 but no-one feels the need to post that on every thread about the youth team.

It's just a bit weird.

I agree with the comments re: the quality of women's football versus men's. We need to mention it in every single topic relating to women's football. It just needs to be said. If it isn't, I start feeling really insecure. That's also why I always make a point of reminding my wife how I could easily beat her in a race.

Youth team football isn’t being rammed down out throats unlike women’s football, I have no intention of watching a game which is inferior to under 12s playing upt Fenny .

There is literally nothing in the world stopping you from just not watching women's football. If it's showing on a channel when you turn on your TV...turn over the channel. If it's listed amongst the headlines on your favorite news site...don't click on it. If someone starts a topic about it on your team's message board...don't engage with that topic.

Funny how this 'rammed down our throats' argument doesn't apply or get mentioned in relation to anything else other than women's football. I never hear people complaining about about the British Bake Off being rammed down our throats. Nobody has spoken to me about all the advertising for Oppenheimer and complained that the film is being 'rammed down our throats.'

If you're going to be sexist then at least have the guts to be honest about it instead of hiding behind a cowardly reasoning of "but but but the quality is so bad!" The govt doesn't lock women's football onto your TV screen and insert Clockwork Orange style implements into your eyes.

It’s definitely gotten better and im not going to begrudge anyone that watches it but it really couldn’t get any worse - it’s pretty much expected with the amount of money chucked into the game that it should improve.

My only criticism is that I think some of the over promotion undermines other women’s sports and athletes that I believe are at a much higher level.

That's a great clue as to your point, but I'm still not there. I just checked the TV listings and at no point is the women's world cup showing on every channel at the same time. The men's world cup? Well, if you want to talk about ramming something down people's throats...It's not an issue for me, since I like having balls (footballs) rammed down my throat. But what if you don't like football? As it is, it's ridiculously easy to avoid a women's football match, so don't act like you're some kind of prisoner to the agenda of TV schedulers.

Whether you think it is amazing or the worst thing ever shown on TV to not expect a World Cup to get national coverage of it seems strange.

I personally haven't watched a single minute of it and apart from the odd bit on the news haven't paid much attention to it. There are 100s of other channels to go at.
