Madness how long things take in this country, other counties take a quarter of the time for things like this. Didn’t China build a full hospital in 3 days during covid, and huge potholes get repaired the day after.

People who do this type of work never look busy no matter where in the country you are always stood about doing nothing.

Sorry it was Japan, seriously in Burnley how long would this take ? I’m guessing 6 months.

Remember when the roadworks near Rosegrove Unity/Rossendale Rd caused mayhem. Took them about a year and half to make an extra lane for a 2 minute drive.

If access through the Culvert for pedestrians isn't widened by next Friday - by making the footpaths more accessible it'll be chaos next Friday night.

A friend once told me after their flight got cancelled at Mancester Airport ... that Manchester Airport should invest in one of those machines they have in North America for clearing runways (Cost in multi millions) for the 2 days of snow we get every 8 years

Not quite the same thing but what is it about airports in the UK? Seems anywhere else in Europe it's quite a polite, organised, civilised process but here it's total chaos.

Just returned from 10 days in one of the baleric islands and the quality of roads and cleanliness of the place were incredible compared to the dump we unfortunately reside in.

HS2...I think we're up to about 2040 now in terms of when whatever is left of it gets finished. China offered to build all of it in 5 years.

I've got to agree with you on this matter..I drive around Burnley and look at the same debris piled up on the verges and crossings with weeds growing out of it, rubbish dumped on the kerbside by people who just don't seem to give a damn about the town..it is so frustrating.
I come from a maintenance background and always do the basics of the job well because in the long run it makes the job easier and more efficient..
Councils never do the basics of the job, to be honest I don't think they are capable of it..
Give me a decent budget for good equipment and staff and you could make the town highways shine..
I won't hold my breath..
Sorry rant over..this is one area I seem to whinge about whilst driving so my wife says..

I am not from Burnley so I could be wrong on this, but I presume The Yorkshire Hotel was on the site of what is now the Kierby Hotel?

I was only young when it was demolished but I think it was virtually on the same site as the Keirby, maybe just a little bit closer to the Culvert where the roundabout is.

From memory, the front of the hotel was in view as you went under the Culvert.

Burnley borough council has had the most severe cuts in the country. Where does the decent budget for good equipment and staff come from?

I take it that you have downloaded the love clean streets app so that you can report anything like this?
Burnley council are one of the few councils, (most don't as chemical spraying is deemed harmful to the environment) who still spray the weeds on footpaths and crossings, but results aren't what they use to be, as most decent herbicides have been banned.
Believe me, making the town shine is not quite as easy as you make out, but then again, you come from a maintenance background.

Agreed, it did touch a nerve.
People moaning about council workers not following litter louts around, but failed to mention their bins being emptied every week, the outstanding facilities at Towneley, Queens and Scott parks, golf, cricket, football, park runs and rounders being on offer for anyone who wants to take part in them, even a civic reception for the town's football team to mark it's success.
The workers should stop the upkeep of these areas and sit in their vans outside McDonald's, KFC, Greggs and subway to wait for the next car full of people, to throw litter out of a car onto the grass verge as it's driving away from these takeaways.

Yes I do come from a maintenance background with plenty of experience where i took pride in a good standard of work.
Having worked for many years in large manufacturing company I've seen large budgets squandered due to the ineptitude of management. Doing the basics of any job doesn't have to cost the earth..

Maybe the " large manufacturing companies" that you worked in, should have had a look at basic budget management. Being as skilled as you are, I bet that you had nothing to do with that part of the large company, but then in your opinion, it's local councils that can never do the basics right.

This map makes it look like the Yorkshire Hotel stood right where the nearest edge of the roundabout to the Culvert was. The Keirby Hotel is mainly built on the area marked Keirby Brewery so there is a Sion Chapel and a school between it and the hotel

You are correct I haven't had the knowledge of upper management monetary decisions but have seen the consequences time after time of various management's trying to reinvent the wheel and it was very frustrating.
I understand the problems with budget cuts and maybe I should be more positive about the town regarding parks etc...
As above a lot of problems are caused by very lazy public who don't seem to give a damn..
I do give a damn maybe that's my problem and I'm not sure what I can do about it.

Give the Council a decent budget and it can employ the staff to do a good job. With 14 years now of real terms cuts to Council budgets basic services are all now underfunded so, in order to try and maintain some half decent level of service in 'essential' services the Council has to look at reducing further the budgets of those services that are nice but 'non-essential'.

This is not just a Burnley problem but one that almost every Council, be it District, Unitary, County, Regional or Metropolitan, is facing. Budget meetings are now concentrated on which services and personnel can be cut with the least effect, rather than about how we can make our community better.

Almost every councillor I've ever met went into it with a sense of idealism that is soon blunted by the might of civil servant led realism. "We could do this", say councillors. "How are you going to fund it?" comes the inevitable reply.

I'll do that and I again apologise if I've insulted anyone as it wasn't my intention..
I'm not a keyboard warrior just someone who would like but is not sure how to improve their town.

It’s terrible that people can’t just put their litter in the bin and have some respect for their own town. Our chavs are so entitled, some other countries don’t seem to have the same problems.

Councils are some of the most appallingly run organisations in the country, really low standards of senior management and financial management, throwing money at them won’t lead to excellence, they really are a shambles. I’ve seen this at senior levels all over the UK.

But the cuts have indeed been devastating, to compound the problem.

Also devastating is the lack of respect many of us have for our areas nowadays, no community spirit and chucking litter is one sign of this.

So these things raised many various posters above can all be true. But, on the flip side, get a small initiative like this one funded and it will improve the area a bit, so I’m looking forward to seeing it finished. It is small though, not big.

Burnley Council is now an instrument of the World Economic Forum and anyone who still works for them should be ashamed for playing a part in the implementation of their policies.
However please could you run a later last bus to whalley and pishcans like me will gladly leave our cars (and designated drivers) at home.

Just looked it up on the council website, and it says:

- better platform access
- a connecting footbridge
- new lifts.

All makes sense, especially the footbridge.

The upgrade to the station is a footbridge fir crossing to the other platform.
There used to be a footbridge, but it was removed along with passenger services in the 60s until they were reinstated in the 80s.

Manchester already has several of them. Flew from terminal 2 recently and all the snow plough machines are all parked just off the taxiway..
