Vaping/ E Cigarettes

Massive problem now in society, I think it’s sad especially grown men and women doing it ?
The amount of underage kids I see with them now too, it’s basically a fashion accessory.
This is the new generation of smoking, they need banning ASAP. They have no use whatsoever.
I thought originally they was to ease people off smoking slowly but there’s people who never even smoked who now ‘Vape’
Massive market for it now so I highly doubt it will be banned anytime soon, they don’t even know the long term effects.

I liken them to a child with a dummy. I was in a bar in Benidorm 2 weeks ago and there was a guy in there and for the whole of my time in the bar, barely had it out of h1s mouth.

Totally agree, the kids you see vaping yhese days is ridiculous. Stories are now emerging of young people with collapsed lungs and a new specific lung injury caused by vaping. We are creating a massive problem not to far down the line.

I think the disposable ones should be banned, the environmental damage they cause is outrageous.

Interestingly, if you look at the advertising and flavour names, you’d be mistaken to think that they weren’t being targeted at the underage market!

I stopped smoking using a vape. Now addicted to the vape but weaning myself off it now.
Nowhere near as bad as smoking in my experience. I run 60 miles a week and compete at the top end of many fell races

yet the incidence of mouth ulcers and cancers has risen, I was told some 5 years ago that this was preferable to lung cancer etc, by a Lady working for the NHS who was telling people that it was beter to vape than smoke but to use vaping as a way to stop altogther (easy for me as a none smoker / vaper)

I'm sure they do far less harm than alcohol but funnily enough its very rare you hear people call for that to be banned.
They don't bother me in the slightest to be honest, I'd much rather have someone in the room smoking one of those instead of a cigarette

It's a matter of time before the disposables are banned, and rightly so as they're terrible for the environment and are designed to be as "kid friendly" as possible. The normal ones I don't see an issue with tbh, people are always going to use nicotine and they're an improvement on smoking.

disposables shouldn't be banned, just disposed of correctly. they are made of recyclable materials.

Should be banned along with smoking
New Zealand have the right idea, raising the legal age limit every year

Seen loads of kids on them non-stop. If there is a problem with them, then it's going to be a huge one.
I'd rather people went back to smoking fags. OK, it rots your lungs, blocks your arteries, costs a fortune, stinks and ultimately kills you and those around you.. but it did look cool, there's no getting away from that. Vaping makes you look like a baby with a dummy. Grown men sucking on a bubblegum and mango flavour stick. What have we become.

Alcohol is slightly different unfortunately because a little is not harmful but we have a major health problem from alcohol.
E cigs sadly will be another health problem as some start using instead of cigs where in their absence they would never had started smoking.
Probably less harmful than cigs but interesting how we are cracking down on diesel fumes whilst ignoring this looming health hazard especially children polluting lungs not fully developed.

Ban the disposable ones, for environmental reasons, along with e-juice flavours that lure kids in. Also, heavy fines for the shops that sell e-liquid to under 18-year-olds.
As for Adults, it's up to them. In any case, as a none smoker, I'd rather someone was vaping on the next table when I'm sat in a beer garden, or walking down the street, than have a lung full of their tobacco smoke.

Two things true at once:
1. If you smoke 20 Marlboro a day then vaping is a much better option.
2. Its not good that kids are getting on nicotine through them.

New Zealand and Australia are also taxing the living bejesus out of tobacco as well. They believe that charging £30 a packet will stop people from smoking but what it has really done is create a huge black market for cheaper cigarettes.

If you go to any HWRC or CRRC under Lancashire county council, they now have receptacles specifically for used disposable vapes so they can be recycled
Hopefully these are available nationwide too

That's all good & well if you have the right intentions & are responsible where recycling is concerned, unfortunately the kids that seem to vape just throw them on the ground & the used vapes seem to be peppered everywhere.

This vaping lark has got out of control , needs to be brought back under some sort of rules what can be bought by whom .
Kids have to have this taken away from them .
In Ireland we had another problem with Head shops selling drugs that were legal , now some of these were crazy i was told and worse than any of the main stay drugs . Anyway our lot closed them all down and now people / kids have gone back to Coke and the like not sure if there is a winner here but i think time is over due to ban these things .

It's illegal to sell the vapes and e-liquid to under 18s here in the UK. Again, though, it's all down to enforcement, resources and the courts.

You make a very good point, the intention is there, but there is a lot of people just throwing them, LCC should branch out with these receptacles in public areas I think

It could possibly make a difference if funding would allow, I just think some people are idle & inconsiderate, sometimes when I'm out walking I see dog crap yards away from a bin & no efforts been made with the bin in front of them.

Disposable Vaps are certainly a growing environmental issue. If you have ever stripped one of these back to the basic components you'll soon recognise there is some valuable material that can be readily recycled - the Li batteries, PC body, copper contacts, etc.
Think the littering problem would be solved by adding a 50p surcharge on the item price which is recouped when returned to the Vap's supplier - make the refund a compulsory requirement of all Vap retailers.

As much as it’s better than smoking tobacco, I don’t know how anyone but a vape enthusiast could argue the pros of nicotine addiction, no matter the form you take it in.
Also, anecdotally I’ve seen vaping friends forget their vapes on a night out and then cadge cigarettes off people, and these are friends who weren’t smokers before they started vaping. I wouldn’t be in favour of banning anything but I’m not a fan

Adults should be able to use whatever products they want as long as they’re not hurting anyone else. No, I don’t vape. If they make themselves sick, well they knew or should have known the risks. Feel free to regulate things for kids though.
My 2 Pennies.

The real problem is disposables start at 2% nicotine, this is a hell of a lot. The wacky flavourings and cheap prices it’s no wonder kids are getting on them, and won’t realise the strength till they’re addicted.
Some countries I think have already banned disposables, normal e cigarette kits I believe are ok as you can control the nicotine and they are highly regulated - obviously use your head to see where the problems may lie for your body.

If the lazy arses can’t even put their empty Macca’s bags in a bin what hope is there for used vapes. The amount of rubbish I see daily just thrown from cars is unreal!

Ok put it another way , in 20 years time we will find out how bad these things were and with the need to help those affected you may find the need to raise taxes to pay for the sick would you still be happy ?

You could say the same about lots of things, the vapes/e-cigs have been out for years now not since yesterday & if something sinister was to emerge later on down the line you could raise the convincing argument that them same people would have been on tobacco/cigarettes anyway & it's widely recognised which is the most harmful by some considerable distance.

Everyone's going to die of something and need health care towards the end of their life. If you want to make a purely monetary argument in favor of your point you'll have to consider the costs of everything else they would have died from and the costs or savings associated with it if they had never vaped. 10 years of treating a dementia patient or 10 years in a nursing home for a couple of examples, might be more expensive then someone dying of vaping.

Just wanted to add, I'm not suggesting that I've done the math on this or anything. I'm just trying to say it's not a zero sum question is all. It's not like if no one ever vaped we'd all live forever health care free until one day we had a fatal heart attack that allowed the NHS or health insurance companies here in the USA to take our taxes/insurance premiums without having to pay much out.

Another reason to ban, one got chucked at Rico Lewis from the CFS.
