FAO Sherborne Phil

Post by ottclaret » Tue Aug 08, 2023 12:30 pm

Hi, Phil.

Do you fancy meeting up for that drink one lunchtime? Maybe in the Digby Tap?

Perhaps Pete LeF could join us - does he read/post on here, or are you in touch with him?

Cheers,

PW

I've sent Pete a link to this thread gents. Not sure he posts here but I'm confident he'll know who you are.

If the drinks happen please have a pint for me. :)

Thanks, Rowls.

Are you an old SW Claret, or do you know Pete from elsewhere?

I know Pete via his daughter. We went to uni together back in the day and would travel to away games on the train.

Glad to hear that the Digby Tap is still open. Very happy memories of a week’s holiday in Sherborne in 1989! Also stopped off at the DT on the day our match at Exeter was called off on 1990.

You went to Uni with Anna? Take this as a compliment, but I always assumed you were, shall we say, a more mature poster! But then again, the years have rolled by...

We may have met - used to see Anna, with uni friends, & Pete at away matches. I used to travel with Scud & Jen.

I'm a good few years older. Went back to uni as a mature student.

Hi Pete, (and Rowls, OttClaret and Tony)

Hope all well. Deffo up for a meet-up Pete, but can’t drink at the moment for medical reasons so going to the Tap (my favourite pub) might be a bit like torture 😂 Can meet up in Sherborne or over your way as i sometimes play golf at Wheathill. I’ll get in touch again when I get back from Burnley after the week-end with Craig, our season tickets have finally arrived! I’ll also try and get hold of Pete.

Phil, how is Pete Le Fev? I've not seen him in a long, long time.

Neither have I! We live about 500 metres apart and I haven’t seen him to talk to for a long time. He did wave as we passed in cars a couple of months ago so I think he’s well.

Big shout out for Phil, instrumental for setting up the South West Clarets a number of years ago. Have fond memories of driving to Exeter from Cornwall very early on a Saturday morning to catch the coach with my 2 sons plus Steve from further west and Ian from Plymouth.

Pete LeFev is doing fine as far as I know. He's not as mobile as he used to be (who is?) hence he doesn't get to as many games these days.

Think he still drives a school bus in term times.

Hi, Phil & Craig. Hope you had a good trip up today - let's hope we have some Robbie Blake & Beast heroics tonight! Say hi to any of the old gang you bump in to from me.

Get back to me when you can, to arrange a meet - sorry to hear you have health problems - we can swap stories over a pint - is it just the Tap where you would find it painful to watch me (& hopefully Pete) have a couple of pints, or pubs in general? I could have lunch with the missus in there and meet you after for a coffee somewhere, while she goes to Sainsbury's!!

When school starts again, you could come over to KM on the school bus with him!

Hi,Pete,

I haven’t forgotten you, just been a bit tricky pinning down some time. Do you have an email address you can share with me so I can contact you?

Does anyone keep in touch with Trevor who lived in Bath? He used to give me a lift from Bristol to the coach pickup for swc on the M5. And a few trips to Burnley.
Cheers

I have fond memories of going to the centre spot and then all these clarets would turn up with alien accents. Remember one bloke having an unbelievable moustache

Greg, I was at uni in Bristol and he would pick me up at the suspension bridge. I Also remember yourself, Marty, Pete and scud. From some of the coach trips, long time ago now though. Live in Australia now otherwise I'd try and catch up at a game.

Hi, Phil. You can e-mail me at 'ottclaret59@gmail.com'.

Moustache would definitely be Marty - Scud is more Freddie Mercury (he'll kill me for that!).

My brother saw Trev at the Spurs game, they rang me for a quick chat but signal was lousy. Trev loves it up there!

Greg - where are you in Oz? I backpacked over there for 12 months many, many years ago, and visited Melbourne a few times after that. I would have emigrated, but I was useless to them!

Cheers Phil
Have plenty of fond memories from my trips up from Bristol.
Been in Perth for 13 years now.
Did the back packing thing myself about 20 years ago and loved it over here but they didn't want me either. Spent the next 5 years getting enough qualifications that they would let me back in.
