I was in the Dyche pre-match, and during the game due to not having a ticket. We were treated to 3 ex Premier League players visiting on media duties (plus Ash Hoskin for a pint!). 2 will be instantly recognised but can you name the third former player?

No problem.
One other thing that really opened my eyes in there, particularly during the game was the amount of drug taking going on. A constant smell of cannabis and people openly smoking it. Young lads, one who we spoke to was 17 years old, sniffing Cocaine in the toilets. Then stood in the garden with pupils the size of bin lids.
I don't know if I have become sanitised from this sort of thing, but you don't see anything remotely like it in any of the pubs I drink in local to me. Very much an eye opener.

That's fairly common in certain pubs around here unfortunately. Maybe not the weed smoking but definitely the blatant coke sniffing.

Not related to the Dyche but part of my evening. After the game my brother and I walked across to the bus station to get a taxi back to Neldon. 2 young lads walked in the taxi office wearing City shirts. Some said taxi to Manchester? No replied the lad, taxi to London. I wasn't sure he was being serious, but he was quoted a fare of £500 by the taxi office. And he paid it in cash. Can't imagine the driver would have had such a fare previously.

That is not something that should be acceptable to the publican. The pub carries the name of our former, illustrious, clean living manager.

The landlady of the Dyche has done a great job with marketing and PR, to rebrand it as a family friendly pub. Every time I’ve been in since it’s the same sh1thole as it was when it was the Prinny.

Hi Herts,
This is really disappointing to read and I can only apologise you had to witness such behaviour. I take pride in running a respectable and safe pub, and it is a constant battle to upkeep a high standard but we try our best. We had a doorman let us down yesterday which left our security stretched, so our standards were not up to scratch when maintaining the environment (eg: checking toilets and manning the entry points). I know if this had been pointed out to our doorman he would have dealt with the situation immediately. Again, I can only apologise.

The Dyche is a great pub, cracking atmosphere, good beer and well run. All pubs will get people in who take drugs I started in the Circ yesterday and there were some wide eyed people in there, it is like for some people a line is part of the day out and it isn't just footballs issue it's nights out, concerts, festivals etc. Until drug dealers are removed permanently from society this issue will get worse. For what it is worse I had a drink there yesterday and enjoyed the experience.

I don't see this as a Royal Dyche problem at all - this is society as it is today unfortunately.

I walked along that row yesterday, after the match. Just as I approached it, a VERY tall young man, late 20s' perhaps, walked past me and knocked ne, when it was just as easy to pass without. He then walked half a dozen steps and caught someone else. Put it down to pug ignorance at the time, however, reading this, perhaps not.

Perhaps it might have been better on its own thread Ian, instead of maybe letting people think it was because of the Royal Dyche. To be fair I've witnessed & smelled drugs in numerous venues over the last few years but it's not something I'd have brought up on the messageboard by singling out one of the best pubs for Burnley fans.

FWIW, I never drank in many pubs in Burnley pre-match.
However, I've seen what you have done to the pub on twitter and even my non Burnley supporting mates have commented what a class place it is to go for a drink when they come up here as away supporters.
You've done a cracking job and top credit to you. Look forward to heading there on my next visit Justine.

I have always been massively anti drugs, but weed is being smoked everywhere, go past any place lads are fishing it’s so obvious it’s being smoked.
I remember dropping off my daughter for her prom 4 years ago, think I came away high. I did ask how many of her school year did drugs, she told me she thought there was only 3 that hadnt in her whole year.
So when 95% of 16 year olds are doing illegal drugs, we have a problem

There's quite a big difference in behaviour between someone who's smoked a couple of joints and someone who's done a couple of lines of coke.

I had an early introduction to people on hard drugs. A lad who I met on my ONC at Accrington moved into his brothers before we started out HNC at Preston. He started doing heroine in that first year and a really clever lad went down hill fast. Then suddenly he looked a bit better. I asked him what was going on. He told me his best mate had OD’d . The lad had chewed off his bottom lip trying to stay awake as he knew he would die if he fell asleep. Only stopped for a few weeks . We finished the course and never saw him again but he was in a bad way.
The other guy was a friend of a friend who came fishing and shooting with us.
His arms looked strangeand I asked him about that . He told me all his veins were blocked With stuff the heroine was mixed with. He was a recovered addict. When I asked him what changed him.
He told me he knew he had to change when he had to get a hard on so he could inject himself there as there was no where else.
Bless him he went to have a family, got himself a class one firearms license, not that that went down well with some officers. Last time I bumped into him he had a boat to go out fishing offshore.
It’s a social problem not a pub problem.

Drug taking is absolutely rife amongst a lot of the pubs in Clitheroe, too. And if you walk past the castle any time of day you can smell the stench of weed a mile off.
It’s not just Burnley that has its problems with drugs.

Thank you for your response Justine. I know you had security on yesterday, my brother used to train with the Polish guy on the door. He did remove one lad quite early in the evening and was generally around the place doing his best. I think my shock is more aimed at young people in Burnley pubs rather than the Dyche. I have drunk in your pub before when I have been in town, if you remember the Parade back in May and you were debating which shirt to wear, I was in with my step father and picked a shirt you agreed with, took it off the ceiling and went away to wash it.
Next time I am in Burnley for a game I will be back in the Dyche for a pint. Up the Clarets

Sadly, not just a Burnley issue but a society issue. Can't blame anyone such as pubs, public sector, police. People need to look at themselves, and if coke is the norm, then look at harm reduction or even legalisation if that what folk want.

The Culvert area is much better now than it was. Used to be a real no go zone. A bit different now. Not perfect but feel comfortable. Went to a festival in Towneley the other year. Had a mini pub crawl with the wife and was a laugh. Not something I would have considered 20 years ago or so.
