Stunned how quickly VK is building his second team/squad in 13 months

VK seems to be ruthlessly and at speed rebuilding a second team / squad to compete in the premier league to replace the one he built to compete in the championship.

Only Roberts in the team last night that wasn’t signed by VK. Of the old guard three on the bench two left out altogether. Even players who were the core of last seasons team that he signed less than 12 months ago are down the pecking order, most notably Muric.

I suppose if he has the money and the capability to bring in a large number of higher quality players , bring it on.

But I am just stunned by the speed of it and expect a lot more turnover in the next two weeks as many players who have already contributed to our success last season leave.

I would think that his next selection may be a lot different, I feel he saw last night as a chance to ‘blood’ some players given we weren’t going to get a result…

PS where in the NE are you?

Would agree with the sentiment that the team for the next game will be changed again and I’d expect to see a lot more of the ‘old guard’.

I highly doubt many of the old guard will feature much at all this season.

VK is here to win, he’s upgraded nearly every position for a reason.

Not sure last night’s wingers were an upgrade on Benson and Zaroury.

Can anyone clear up the amount of players we use. We can register 25 players but I think players under certain age can be used too.
Anyone with the knowledge tell me from our squad, potentially how many can he use???

I agree for some players, but not all.

It seems obvious to me VK is building a starting team that are all quick, big, and technical. Our team last night was so much bigger all over the park compared with last season.

We're clearly still looking for balance but players like JBG, Cork, Rodriguez, Taylor, Twine (possibly Brownhill) just don't have the combination of technique and athleticism VK has mentioned so many times this preseason. Even Benson I suspect will be confined to a mostly impact sub role.

Players like Beyer, Al Dakhil, Cullen, Zaroury and Foster will become the "new old guard" I would imagine.

25 named players over age 21 (under 21 this season is born on or after 1st Jan 2002). We easily make up the home grown quota, no problems there. Unlimited U21's.

As it stands:

O'Shea
Taylor
Cork
Beyer
JBG
Brownhill
Jay
Benson
Twine
Roberts
Redmond
Berge
Foster
Ekdal
Zaroury
Vitinho
Cullen
Amdouni
Bastien
Churlinov
Vigoroux
Larsen
Obafemi
Muric

Those 24 all need to be named. The rest such as Trafford, Koleosho, Ameen, Odobert etc. are under 21 so don't count towards the 25, we can have as many as we want.

I agree I think we will see very little of most of the old guard this season, some of this will depend on whether they can be moved on , but I am sure they know where this stand.

Totally agree.

I also believe Al-Dakhil has possibly the highest ceiling out of anyone in the squad - technical, quick, tall and very composed on the ball.

I think he’s going on to play at a high level

I see it this way - Pace & co didn't buy in to battle relegation each year. He wants a club/his club in Europe.

Getting VK and being bowled over by how brilliant he is (he's going to the top let's face it) has shown him its possible with the right investment. Pace is infectious himself as is VK and attracting the likes of JJ & DP is showing the investment group that we are absolutely on the right track

We can qualify for Europe AND have a 'plan' for developing and selling on young talent under the current setup (see Brighton - £4.5m for Caicedo and selling him for 100m+) - this will have the investors licking their lips because they've bought into the plan and will have returns promised as and when these lads are brought to potential and moved on

This is EASILY the most exciting time for me as a Burnley fan and I remember us winning Division 4! (Just!)

Just to clarify, and the reason I originally put ‘old guard’ in brackets, is because I was specifically referring to Muric, Benson, Zaroury, Brownhill, Twine etc. as actually being the old guard, such is the change in personnel we’ve seen over the last twelve months and this transfer window.

I fully expect Taylor, Cork and Rodriguez to have only bit part roles this season. I thought that was a given.

On the doc one of the board meetings they talked about the teams who finished bottom 3 average spend being 140m each, so it’s not wonder we are spending the money we are, now is the time to get the 2 or 3 starters over the line to go with the squad depth we now have

Surely the Investors can only start licking their lips when the club is sold?
When the players are sold and moved on, the income generated will be spent on players to replace the departed, otherwise it will be a very short journey

Perhaps not they can obviously pay dividends or maybe sell to a newly constructed company, get more investment retain control or not and realise some cash in the process.

One game and already they aren't as good.......

So many positives last night, and just like last season I think we will get better and better as the new players blend in, and VK sorts out who his main players are. It will still be a squad game, and I expect many changes throughout the season. I wouldn't hazard a guess at what our best line up is yet. The best player might not even be through the doors yet. Who knows.

True, Zarourys fist start was when he was very poor at Coventry and was really surprised he was picked again to start the next match. But you could then start to see why VK had such faith in him . Benson was equally a slow starter before he began to make a real impact.
We can’t judge our new players just on their debuts.

Cork is at the end of his career now, he’s probably going to be kept as a useful squad member plus he’s a decent bloke to have around the changing room (something Dyche always felt was important to have and Kompany probably feels the same)

JBG - probably be used sparingly

Brownhill - 27 but a leader of the team and will feature regularly

Jay Rod - same as Cork, plus it’s his hometown club so he’d probably want to finish his career here

I agree, with VK trying to upgrade as he appears in most positions it’s difficult, with all the other qualities Brownhill has, that he cant see his technical limitations, even after all the intensive training he will be receiving he is not up to the type of football he will want to play in the premier league.

VK is here to win, he’s upgraded nearly every position for a reason.
He hasn't upgraded left-back, right-back or the number 9 spot and the wingers are not an upgrade either... I also still think we were stronger when THB was in, no matter what the results said... The only upgrades are the number 10 spot and maybe in midfield but that is too early to say...

Overall, he has upgraded squad quality slightly and depth enormously. Still, he definitely has not upgraded much in the first team in terms of being better quality than we already had... At the very least, I expected two marauding full-backs, a big beast of a centre-back, and an actual 9 with a decent scoring record and we are still nowhere near that so I am a little disappointed despite what we have spent...

He seems to have fluffed out the squad, nothing more... It will be enough to keep us up but it seems a bit of a wasted opportunity to me with the budget he has had so far!

I don't have much of an idea in all honesty but if you look at the Caeciedo deal it's likely to yield 100m profit for the club. Maybe there's something saying that 50% goes back into building/investing in more potential and the other 50% gets split across the investors?

When/if the club is then sold on they will of course be getting a further payout.

Pace doesn't strike me as somebody who's all about the money - yes of course its important but he wants to build something special whilst also making his business associates some cash too

We have also gone up a division and have yet to see how Benson and Zaroury do this season.

I don't for one moment believe that VK thinks that Koleosho is currently a better player than Benson - nor that Lyle Foster is a better option on the left-side of the attack than Zaroury.

I wouldn't read too much into that somewhat odd team selection v City.
