World Cup Winners

Given that it's likely Martinez will be in goal for Villa in our next home game- other than any of the '66 WC winning team - will Martinez be the first World Cup Winner, since 1966, to play a competitive match at the Turf?
I can't think of anyone else....

Yeah, I guess there are a few more.
Maybe my OP would've been better saying 'how many have there been?'

Interesting thread though. Thought provoking 👍

Germans from 2014? Arsenal players possibly? Did Mertersacker, Ozil play at Turf? The Chelsea guy Schurle - think he scored at Turf. Apologies if spelling incorrect.

Pedro, Fabregas, Benjamin Mendy? I know definitely Fabregas but unsure if other two played at turf. I think they did.

Pretty sure Schurle scored in our first PL game under Dyche after winning the World Cup that same summer.

Seen as he's been mentioned, Schürrle's still only 32. Retired from football and now seems to have lots of fun going up and down mountains and sitting in those ice bath things.

Schurle scored early for Fulham on a day we Dyched 'em and won 2-1 when we had 0 shots on target.
