I'm doing my very best this season not to get carried away too much and to mind my language. I fail in these regards far too often.

It's something I struggle with when watching Burnley. Everything comes through in Claret tinted colours. The referee is obviously against us, the opposition are constatntly wasting time and fouling us. We are always blameless. It's so very difficult.

It might help if my Mum came to the football but she doesn't.

I think it's a credit to you that you atleast realise that sometimes your behaviour can be below par, I think we can all let our frustrations get the better of us at times and everyone is entitled to a bad day. I only have issue with the fans who believe that that behaviour is acceptable and never need to apologise for it.

I'm the type who finds it difficult not to call out poor behaviour, or things that irritate me - for example people using their mobile phones in the cinema.
I guess it comes down to your level of respect for others at the end of the day.

I'm also one for openly challenging bad behaviour and I really ought not to swear as much as I do. Especially in the Bob Lord where I know a good deal of people are offended by it.

Whenever there's a sense of indignation that we're somehow being cheated out of something I really struggle to hold it in. Worse still, these sensations of unfairness and the general conspiracy against us are rarely rooted in reality.

When they are (Lee Mason vs Preston *cough* *cough*) I'm filled with anger and righteous indignation and that's a helluva combination.

I will never forget sitting in the Burnley end at Bury one Boxing Day ( we lost 4-1 I think) With my wife to be and we were sat behind a ‘family’ with 2 under tens. The language of the kids was horrific but credit to the mum. She told them to stop f***ing swearing !!!!!! And then apologized to my wife. Classic

We were at Arsenal in the 1st Prem Season and had just taken our seats ... I felt a tap on my shoulder and turned round there was a rather merry (Probably a couple of shandies imbibed) larger lady in her 40's with two or three others (and a couple of blokes of a similar age) and she said "I am going to apologise now cos I swear a bit" laughing we all said no worries ... a couple of minutes later one of her freinds said "Oi ***** are you getting your T!ts out today" she shouted back ... "No I ****ing am not, I only get my t!ts out at Wembley" to much laughing and jollity from her compadres ... needless to say it was a laugh throughout the match.

This thread is doing nothing to counter my firm belief that there is a larger than average percentage of this clubs that would love nothing more than to sit there quietly away. Perhaps a light round of applause if we manage to score, but anything else would be distasteful.

Whether you like it or not, good atmospheres are built (in part) by hairy arsed men shouting sometimes obscene things and I can only thank the lord that the gentrification of football hasn’t made it as far as tone policing just yet

This is a story I was told. A friend of mine not really into football was offered a spare seat in the executive area at Highbury in the 1970s. He said it was mostly an enjoyable experience with half time drinks and a really nice meal after the match. The main problem was a fellow in these seats who was constantly hurling foul language and abuse at the Arsenal goalkeeper, Bob Wilson. He mentioned this to his mate who pointed out to him that just a couple of rows down was Wilson's wife and daughter, and furthermore this abusive fellow knew it.

I told my kids repeatedly that what they heard at football matches wasn't stuff they could use at home without consequences, and that if I found out they had used it elsewhere those same consequences would follow. I said the same to my grandkids when they first started going - only to be informed afterwards by my, then 6 year old, grandson that he had heard all the words before at school!

Once we've delivered a safe standing area, maybe the club should think about a quiet seating area? Perhaps enclose a section of the Bob Lord stand in soundproof glass and pipe classical music in during the game?

It didn't hurt me at all. If you bother to read my opening post post, I was simply asking the question if other people have the same problem with whom they get lumbered with over a season.

I may well, and probably will say something if the behaviour demonstrated on Friday escalates as the season progresses. We all have a breaking point. I've nothing against people swearing at football matches in general, as I've mixed it with the best of them, but coming out with inane and banal utterings like someone with tourets is rather annoying to most fair minded folk.

I've chosen to move seats this season, for what I thought was a better view, which it is, but I'm now sat next to a complete clown who just shouts "you **** b@stard" at the top of his voice in full view of his young son (I'm guessing) who thinks it's hilarious. Some role model Their inane comments throughout the game on Friday were also a complete irritation.

It looks as though I've no choice but to put up with this, as I can't just move to an empty seat further away any more.There just aren't any now.

That's the problem with all seater stadiums. Was much better when rowdy groups of lads who wanted to sing and swear went on the terraces and people who wanted to take their kids and watch the game in peace sat down.

If you had come on here with a story that you had tried to be reasonable & attempted to sort it out with the offending party but with no success I would have understood & been more sympathetic to your plight.

I recall being sat next to someone at Oxford in 2000 and his language was really appalling, using the worst of words. I thought I'd make the point to him that there was a young girl sat next to him, maybe around eight-years-old. I was told in no uncertain terms that:

Haha we were sat near him. He was irritating but harmless enough. He also used to shout “ARE YOU SURE??? SPEECH!!” whenever the ref made a decision.

I know exactly who you're on about. Used to always get a chuckle from the folks around him during those games we were bored shitless with what's going on on the pitch. God I feel nostalgic now. I moved seats ages ago (but not because of that!) so don't know if he still does it, wonder if anyone knows if he still goes on.

Judging by episode 3 of Mission to Burnley the most foul mouthed person in the stadium is our lovely Vincent, which my junior school family found hilarious, it was the best lure the programme had to get them to watch it on the telly

On the Turf it is just a grin and bear it situation, and praying the young uns don’t copy the yells and chants in school and get in trouble.

I was at a match where Bognor Regis were playing with Robbie Blake as coach. You should have heard him! Even his manager, a very experienced man, asked him to rein it in. Blake is now their manager and has been for a couple of years.
