I'm liking the way we are doing our business at the moment.

Having watched mission to Burnley, it’s all about making sure any offers for players are very high as they have long contracts. Personally happy with the new model, we just need some lads to put the best leg forward and sell them for top money. Reducing our debt.

Club certainly seems to be mapping for the long term. Kompany must be thrilled to bits to be working at a club that shares the same vision and is willing to back him.

Love this one!
I've spent most of the summer convinced that we'd be selling Cullen and while this contract extension doesn't preclude such, it does make it far less likely.

Come on. Although it gives us a modicum of protection, this is all about bringing his wages in line with the legacy players who will have had their wages reinstated due to gaining promotion. Same as Benson and Zaroury. Expect Al Dakhil to be next.

Yes, but he still has to agree it and the celebration is that most players appear to want to stay, their wages deserve to be appropriate and this is an event to celebrate. He may leave in the future and based on Mission To Burnley we want players to leave to create that pipeline and funding stream, but it has to be on our terms.

Of course. But the players aren’t really committing to much given they are only 1 year extensions to their current contracts. It’s way more about rewarding them with ‘Premier League wages’ than it is about them wanting to stay

And by the way, I don’t disagree with paying them what they have earned

Arguably our most important player.

New contract announcements are a great example of spin and supporters always buy it.

"Four more years!" goes down much better on social media than "We've agreed to pay Player X more money in line with other members of the squad."

Not saying it's a bad thing and of course it's a bit more complex than that, new contracts for Benson and Zaroury probably include release clauses etc.

But if a player has three years left on their contract, how significant is extending it to four?

New contracts are mainly the result of concrete offers being received from other clubs.

It extends the period before you're over a barrel with regard to either renegotiating or selling the player by 50%; I'd consider that fairly significant

We should hold out until they offer money instead of concrete :D

Absolutely it does. But the main reason for these new contracts is a salary increase. And nothing wrong with that by the way.

It's rewarding good performances, for all we know, they could have had low release clauses In them.

Do they not already have Premier League wages put into their contracts in case of promotion?
