Absolutely amazing achievement and apparently very difficult to do, fair play to them.

As one Indian scientist said, though, they tried everything they could to make their plaything Rovers into a success and realised it was easier to go to the dark side of the moon.

Probably by buying oil and gas from their friends Russia at knockdown prices.

A Kwiki-E-Mart could be quite useful for future travellers.

Brilliant stuff! Congratulations to India. Another step forward for mankind.
Obviously we all know that the aid to India should be stopped. Remember that when it comes to ostensibly charitable pledges at election times, no matter which way you vote.
But mainly, congratulations to India on a successful mission.

Not particularly into Modi or India and I don’t see them as an ally even if they portray themselves to be.
Their undermining of our attempts to curtail Russia/Putin is one notable example

The Foreign Office sent India £33.4 million in aid cash in 2022/23. This will increase to £57 million in 2024/25.

While one person goes hungry spending on this vanity project is obscene ,as is our doling out millions to India. The point of independence was that you stand on your own not rely on constant handouts from the UK

I started this as a celebration of science and to get a light hearted dig at bstards, in no time at all it becomes a tit for tat dig at Indian culture, racists overtones and point scoring. Surely a massive technological achievement by an emerging economy should be applauded especially when only a couple of days before Russia's attempt ended in catastrophe. ( Ironic)

And I wouldn't bother crying about stereotype jokes, I'm sure the Americans built a McDonalds there, its right next to the Chinese's launderette, be nice to have a corner shop there too, hopefully we will get there and build a fish and chip shop. Big boys don't cry, big boys don't cry...

From a strict scientific angle? Of course yeah it’s impressive…
Including all the geopolitics - then no I don’t think it particularly should in all honesty.
I wouldn’t say it’s ‘tit for tat’ it’s more people giving their opinion on the India regime and state of the country which is obviously bound to happen given that it’s erm…. An Indian space mission

Such a shame that Putin’s rocket drove itself straight into the surface of the moon at speed only to then see India succeed where they failed only a few days earlier (sarcasm). No doubt a few Russian scientists have been declared as ‘missing’ in recent days?!

Russia’s area of expertise is in bringing aircraft down not in sending rockets up.

They put this on the moon, they have a nuclear programme, yet millions live in abject poverty in their nation; we still bale em out with aid.
We have people on the streets, families on the breadline living in hotels can't dick about putting owt on the moon and are effectively bankrupt as a nation.............
Sommat not quite right here, perhaps they should look to reduce the poverty and hunger in their nation before going off into space. The Indian people are superb, and deserve better from their hierarchy.

Could have easily been developed without blasting a rocket onto a distant object which will never be used as anything other than an expensive landing strip.

I take your point TP, and hopefully in the right format, but the question has to be asked when we are sending £50 mill in aid to a country with a space programme when we have hundreds of thousands of people below the bread line, questions have to be asked.
Doesn't India have a cosy relationship with Russia also?
Great work on the landing, no doubt it. Aid should go to the millions who need it though. If the country can afford a space programme it should be able to afford to support the vulnerable in it's society.
Yes, I know your views and agree. We should help our vulberable far more than we do.

Love how some folks assume "aid" is doled out to help eradicate the poverty in India. What does our contribution work out at per head, I wonder? 50p? 20p?
That will work.
Our contributions, as such, are a pretty desperate attempt to - no pun intended - - to curry favour with a
country rapidly rising in world power and influence.
Indian's government, like ours, has probably no intention of getting rid of poverty and inequality.
It's a bit rich some of the loons on here bemoaning the fact that India'priorities lie in making progress in science, technology and military development.
I think not automatically backing the West in their crusade against the Russian bogeyman is a shrewd and, while we're on the subject of finances, sensible move.
And
