So then, following Vincent’s comments on the City game being the worst that the team will be all season - was he correct or does he look a bit of a fool in that we were even worse in the very next game?

I think quite a lot of them have season tickets so will be at least a year until they are gone.

So far, absolutely. Been really surprised at how poor we've been. Fitness levels seem way off.

The good news is that surely it can’t get much worse than yesterday.

It's the kind of thing Brian Clough would say as a manager.
It might not turn out to be true but it speaks of his desire to put things right and to improve and win.
When we first brought Kompany in I was concerned he'd be a Southgate style manager wedded to needless passing and soft to the core. Last season showed how wrong I was.
There will be a lot more mistakes this season. We're bedding in new players who are learning the system and we're also playing against much higher standard of opposition. We might get thumped a couple of times against the best sides but I'm still very confident we'll be fine.
It's time for us fans to hold the line, show confidence in the management and players and to continue backing them to the hilt.
Cricket field was great yesterday in their continued support.

There are things there to build on, plus Tresor and Zarroury to come back. Work to be done in the two week break, particularly with our defenders, and as long as we keep seeing progress I remain positive

Fitness levels are being shown up because player's are being played out of position and are having to work twice as hard as they need to, get player's back in position's their best at, thing's will improve.

Yes, zaroury and tresor will add to the attacking play, but it's not there we need to improve.

You have to feel sorry for Blackburn fans like him. It must be hard for that lot down the road now they've realised they're nothing but a play thing for their Indian owners.
Even worse, they turn up on here trying to ride on the back of our energy. Bless!

The City game wasn’t great but obviously it was always likely there would be one or two worse performances than that over the course of the season - but to have had so many worse ones already since makes Vincent look extremely foolish.
He needs to sort it soon.

Can’t agree there. The overall defensive shape and structure is looking far better yesterday than previous games. Limited Newcastle to just 2 big chances in the match despite their constant pressure. Same team that put 8 past Sheff the week before…

First three games, goals conceded 11 (and could have been more)
Next three games, goals conceded 4.
I think that in itself shows we are learning to adapt.

They could of put 8 past us yesterday, we are woeful defensively.
Were trying to play a way this squad is incapable of playing at this level

They could, but didn’t. I think you’re overreacting slightly.
As for VK’s comment, that’s just a standard motivational thing for a manager to say, it’s hardly worth analysing too much, though it’s no real surprise the OP has done.

It doesn't make Kompany look foolish at all...unless you created this thread and like referring back to it thinking he's foolish. In fact, it's no bid deal whatsoever.

Can’t agree there. They had 2.5 xG to our 0.9 (bare in mind 0.75 of their total was from a daft penalty). I felt the defending yesterday and flow of the game wasn’t too dissimilar from Dyche days, plenty of good box defending which limited them chance wise.

I'm starting to become concerned that VK only knows 1 way of setting the team up & that's trying to go for the jugular when in this league you need to be defensively disciplined to grind out results, the sooner we realise that we are no longer in the championship & need to try a different approach the sooner we can get points on the board & hopefully start moving up the table. The football might not be as pretty but it'll be more effective in gaining points.

Is that the same XG that had spurs down at about 2.8 against us yet they scored 5?

The one issue which could be our downfall is trying to play like a “ top 6 super club “ when our players are slightly below that level across the pitch . We’d blow away most smaller European leagues , but we just look a bit “ light” in the prem. Still very confident we’ll have far too much for the likes of Sheff/Luton and 2/3 others though .

We've all the ingredients of being an excellent counter attacking team if only we moved the ball quicker and stopped losing possession so cheaply.

There's no chance Kompany will turn us into a counter attacking team, and nor should he. He should stick to his beliefs because he's signed players to fit his model, even though it might not be enough.

Exactly. 2 of their goals were outside the box screamers (low xG chances). In fact in the last 3 games we’ve conceded 3 stunning finishes and a penalty. It’s hardly been getting cut open which is what ‘woeful defending’ would suggest.

I don't see any harm in mixing it up.. playing counter attacking football against a team that dominates possession.. then playing possession based football against a team happy to sit back.
I'm not saying VK should change his philosophy nor do I think he should.
Villa beating Brighton 6-1 with 38% possession is a perfect example of mixing it up.

I think home to Chelsea will be a better indicator. I'll be happy with a point at Luton, but hoping we dominate them and win.

There's no harm mixing it up and adapting to the opposition.I just don't think VK will do that and I understand why he wouldn't.

I find it astonishing how quick “Burnley fans” are to slag off this team of all teams, like the 100+ points season counts for nothing?
After last seasons new team and slow start, have fans not learnt to be just a little patient?
Let’s just f**k everything BFC eh, let’s all just revel in defeat, balls to VK and the long term vision, as a newly promoted team we aren’t beating teams in European football so burn the whole thing down

Dyche football was dreadful, the signings were short term, a side built to decline. VK has just delivered a season Dyche could only dream of, blew teams away like we were Barcelona.
