So says Nadiem Amiri, who flew in by private jet with his family, had a look round and decided it wasn’t for them.
Leeds had agreed a fee of £5m.

It is !
Went to the Royal Armouries two weeks ago.
Walked from the train station to the dump of a building.
They knocked it all down in the 1990s and built another getto.

Very cool city Leeds, and Leeds dock where the armouries is is a decent setup as well.

Say what you want about about the team; can’t stand them. I can’t fault the actual City too much though.

There won't be much in England to suit him if he doesn't like Leeds.
Good job he wasn't signing for Middlesbrough.

Like any town/city, there are some absolutely horrible parts of the place, but the City Centre and Leeds Docks is somewhere I definitely would not allude to as a “dump” or a “getto”

Visited friends there numerous times, been to big outdoor events at different places, indoor gigs in various venues, art shows, work trips, commuted through and spent an odd day there with no agenda. Stayed, eaten in, and visited a variety of places around the Citu with and without local hosts.
Have to say i've never found any of the charm and character I hope for when visiting a place.
I wouldn't go out of my way to slate much about Leeds other than the road system but I would only ever go again for a thing, rather than just visit Leeds for Leeds sake.
So many Towns and Cities in the UK hold a much greater appeal.

Leverkusen is hardly Monte Carlo. I’m all for a Leeds kicking, but it’s a decent city and this just smacks of Twitter accounts not having the full story and implying he hated the place for ‘engagement’.

Decent place. Lived in Leeds for over 50 years.
50 years ago yep a grim city... but today transformed.
Just ordered a new book.
Dirty Leeds. Yep that's the title.
About Revie in the 60s.

Leeds is a great city. Not too big, plenty to offer. Sure there are some rough areas but that's the same with everywhere

Went to Uni in Leeds then lived there a further five years post graduation with my first job. Love the place.
Great city centre, great nightlife, great people to be honest (unless discussing Leeds United, obviously). It has its shithole outer areas (Beeston, Seacroft, Holbeck etc) but where doesn’t?

It's a step up from Bradford.

Leeds is literally what you make it to be & the same applies anywhere, if you want it to be a sh1thole it will be & if you don't it won't be.

It’s got some fabulous restaurants. The old architecture is stunning but the new buildings are mediocre and no where near as interesting as Manchester’s.

You’d have thought they already knew what he was demanding in wages before he set foot on the plane.

A tickled me thread. In the 70s I worked with a guy who travelled for a major promotion. He went by train. When he got there he never left the station and got the next train home. He said it was derelict, burn out, slum all the way in. The city was Glasgow which is lovely nowadays.

He was right about it back in the 1970s mind; it took a brave man to walk out of Glasgow Central, especially on the west side onto Hope Dtreet.

I know people who work 5 minutes from Glasgow Central and it can still get interesting - the police have advised them to 'stay in your building' a couple of times.

I can’t stand Leeds, much prefer Sheffield (though our shopping has been decimated in recent years), thats because of the difficulty getting to anything from the nicer parts, much is now “out of town shopping” such as on the M62 on which the traffic is always chaos, and there is no metro/light rail/tram to hop in easily like most major cities around the world. When I get in the car in Leeds I get fed up quickly.
Don’t get me wrong, Sheffield ranks worse on the major investment neglect than Leeds (but neither great) and we don’t even have ANY electrified train lines but the geography of the hills makes the whole city very accessible with beauty on the doorstep.

I work in Leeds. Driving is an absolute nightmare. They change the central road system at least weekly.
They've wasted a load of time and money putting in barely used cycle lanes - considering it's the largest European city to have neither a tram or metro network, that money really should have been better spent.

Agreed. The work they have done in the M621, City Square and Armley Gyratory has done nothing to improve the travel infrastructure of the City and has even managed to make it worse!

I’ve always found Leeds ok tbh, plenty of pubs and nightlife and the usual perfectly decent ,if generic regenerated city centre “ shops bars & nightlife “ always eaten well there . Though does have a sort of small man/yappy dog syndrome when compared to Manchester .

I’ve lived in Leeds for 20 years and I think it’s a great city. Just the right size to get around on foot, plenty of good bars, restaurants and shops. The boutique shops in the arcades are different and the fairly recent Trinity and Victoria Gate developments are big improvements to those areas of the city. It’s also a great city to work in with a good weekday vibe around the office areas.
I must admit that there is a shortage of decent green space and ‘public realm’ which seems to be being actioned by the pedestrianisation of City Square which is the first impression as people enter the city by train. Unfortunately this is making travel by car around the city even more difficult and frustrating - particularly as large parts of the suburbs aren’t served by decent public transport.
It’s certainly not a sh!thole though and there are only very few parts of the actual city centre which I would describe as being rough - far fewer than Manchester which admittedly has more to offer but I find less appealing.
