Wonderful, wonderful contribution for the winning goal. Everything we bought him for can be seen in that piece of play. Let’s hope that those that have already written him off (and there are a good few out there) can perhaps now more clearly see the undoubted quality that Sander Berge can bring to our exciting team.

That’s what he’s best at JD!

Carrying the ball forward, fending defenders off and making things happen.

Too many folk prepared to make a final assessment based on any single game, especially if it is a negative critique.

Good news he has the ability and once he adjusts to our pace he will be a star.He needs a tough ball winner with him .He had Josh Brownhill which allowed him more freedom to play his natural game as a creator of chances

I think more have been questioning his role as a defensive midfielder rather than the actual player.

Jury is out.
I'm pleased he had a better game last night, it can't disguise he was really poor on Sunday. I haven't written anybody off yet, but consistency is what measures a good player. I hope he finds the confidence to keep it up.

It’s no surprise that berge had a better time when playing alongside Cullen and brownhill

You shouldn't even have to say this.

We are now up there with some of the most fickle fans in the country. Any given player, especially a new one, puts in a couple of poor performances and it all 'he's a waste of money' and 'what a load of rubbish we've bought'.

It's the same regarding VK. A bad run and it will be 'he's clueless and out of his depth in the EPL' and 'sack him'. Then you have the resident shut-ins who consider themselves to have more knowledge of the game than our management team. It's so embarrassing.

It’ll likely be cos some people felt the need to write a damning review on a player after 2 games in the style of he’s had two seasons now

Two league games in, he came 3rd in the MOM ratings in the opener.
How many have written him off??

A none tackling giant in a 2 man cm isn't what we need, especially with his languid style. Letting him loose with 2 holding cm is fine. He'll have to compete with Ramsey.

Feels like we have:

Two holding mids in Cork and Cullen (for 2 spots)

Four number 8's in Brownhill, Berge, Ramsey and JBG (for one spot) Based on 4-2-3-1

People are more concerned with how this all fits rather than a dig at Berge.

Was he the type of player we desperately needed? Only time will tell. And I think that's what people have been querying.

I don’t think people should be judging anyone this early with a totally revamped team having played City and a free scoring very good Villa. Last night was a better yardstick because there are more ‘Forests’ in the PL than there are ‘City’s’.
As far as Berge is concerned I think it’s a ‘watch this space’ because my Blade mate was almost in tears when we got him. He is a player of undoubted ability.

With respect, that’s absolutely laughable. Some of the comments on here and on other platforms, based on two performances against elite opposition, one one of which was played just hours after he had arrived and both in unfavourable positions, were absolutely ridiculous. As someone who has previously stated that I rate the player and would like to sign him, why in earth should I not say that? It’s not abusive. I strongly disagree.

Three years ago, I posted about my want to get Jack cork back in the side and the vast majority of people gave me dog’s abuse for it. He came back in the side and I was more than happy to celebrate that. If you can’t enjoy players that you rate playing well and sharing those feelings, then that’s wrong in my opinion. Similarly I’ve made bad calls which I’ve been called out for and I’ve consequently engaged in conversation about…not just bat posters away to the boundary. People should speak up snd people should feel comfortable that others will possibly engage in conversation as a result. It’s a strange world.

I hear that, and that’s fair enough - I can actually see why some aren’t that impressed so far, but….. he’s played only three games against PL opposition in a new team. He played quite well against Man City, and he played quite well last nite. Granted he wasn’t great against Villa, but bear in mind we are still at the experimenting phase. I think we need quite a few more games yet before we can get anywhere near forming a rounded opinion on annyones ability and consistency.
I’m convinced when he’s in an advanced role, he brings an awful lot to our offensive game - he did for SUFC.

I wouldn’t worry about that. I seem to remember Gareth Bale had similar shocking stats until he played against us and he did pretty well thereafter!

That stat will apply to any of the Sheff United squad that remain from their last outing in the PL…

I agree it is too early to say with all the new players including Berge. But equally so as soon as a player does anything good that does not mean "I told you so".

The manager should be trusted with what he has done...each game does not have to be treated as the end of the world...any points against spurs will be a bonus

It will be harder to stay out of the bottom 3 than it was to storm the championship...

But last year after 5 or 6 games some were saying Sheff United were already champions need to give all the players time

Some of the younger players have real pedigre ...it is in my view 50/50 whether we stay up or not ...but having watched since 1977 this is undoubtedly the most exciting time to be a fan at such a high level

Like any speculation if it goes wrong the pieces will have to be picked up...but Pace and Kompany have given it a go in my book and should be applauded

I found the Berge signing an odd one and possibly the oddest of the summer for us it seemed weird to me that Sheff U were suddenly, almost overnight, happy to sell and cheerfully wave him off before immediately scurrying out and using the cash to buy a guy who we'd allegedly been after and were chatting up. My feeling was that they may have boxed very cleverly there. I'll be honest and say that in the two games I've seen Berge play he really hasn't impressed, although he was definitely better against Villa than against City. I wasn't at Forest, so I can't say on that one. However I will say two things: 1. I believe he divided Sheff U fans opinions because he has such a "languid" style and that leads some fans to immediately think "lazy", which MIGHT be unfair. 2. I'll wait until he's played 10 games (that I've actually attended in person) before I decide if he's bobbins or not. Jury's out imo.

Strange isn't it. People say we need 'more height' in the team but then the taller players seem to attract a lot of negative comments such as slow or lazy. All players need respect, time to adjust and allowances made, especially when the team as a whole underperform. All players can look off their game when the opposition play well, so that will be happening more than a few tines this season. There are a lot of teams out there who are currently better than us. Our challenge is to narrow that gap and as quickly as possible. It helps when fans encourage rather than moan. If any players ever read these kind of sites and I reckon some will, it might be more constructive if there are some positive and encouraging comments to balance the negative ones.
Fans who give out negative comments on our players, will get the same back from some supporters. If you can't take it, don't give it out.

Obviously a lot more going on around the two teams and who they have played but Hamer certainly seems to have made more of an impact then Berge so far.

I assumed that Kompany hooked Berge on Saturday after he had gifted Tottenham possession in first half stoppage time, a mistake which culminated in them going 2-1 up . I was livid at the time myself as Berge , after moving nicely forward in the centre of the pitch "did a Lucy Bronze" and needlessly surrendered possession.

Thought he did well for the first half an hour, The problem is his best work was in the left wing position. He’s clearly not a defensive midfielder, he likes to roam and get on the ball.

Very similar problem to Brownhill, they get caught out of position high up the pitch whilst roaming in the final third.

Berge is clearly a talented player with the ball, ability to drive with the ball, we don’t need to replace him (especially not with a player like Brownhill who has the same forward mentality) we just need to try and fit him in by getting others to cover the space vacated.

I thought we’d have Roberts at right back tucking in to create a solid defensive base of Cullen and Roberts CDM. With Taylor LB tucking in to make 3 CBs behind. 5 pretty static defensive players, keep solid shape and play triangles amongst them to keep the ball when needed.

Berge is a playmaker/ box to box player. Not a defensive midfielder that runs after every ball though I do think he does his job. He does try his best to do his defensive work.

Think the ball should go more towards him with his good passing he should play it around. Cullen is way less of a passer. He should do must of the dirty work as a real 6. Berge is more of an 8. It wouldn't be bad to have a more midfielder type at 10 like a Ramsey. Someone that comes to help more at midfield rather than Amdouni who's more of an attacker himself. Maybe Tresor could be great in that role too. He's more of a playmaker than Amdouni.

That’s all fine, but we are going to need 3 proper cm players against most teams, or will be overrun time after time. That probably means only 1 winger. Unfortunately we have about 10.

That's what I'm saying, if you play with a real 10 instead of Amdouni, could also be Brownhill for now, you have 3 midfielders and a bit more grip on the midfield in defensive view.

But I don't think that's going to change much tbh. Let Vinnie do his job he knows better than any of us what he's doing and how to improve.
