We seem to be getting a lot of players who have played for their countries at under 21 level a lot.

Lot of young players coming in with the expectation that some will progress to a level where we can make some decent profit on them. The number of players at his age and younger now in the squad is incredible. Thank goodness Alan Hansen isn't around with his 'you win nothing with kids' line.

Obligatory signing video.
Wondered how long before the Bond gun barrel scene would pop up 🙂

Why the hell do we owe compensation if he's not been there for 8 months?

Surely that's WAY different to taking a player directly from a club...???

Could Burnley FC field a full starting XI of overseas players for the first time this season? Now that’s proper Premier League.

Another wondering why compensation?
It reads that rather than coming through their academy Bristol bought him at 18, so presumably on a full pro contract which has now expired.

Another winger, whilst he might be great .FFS we need othe positions like a striker.

Compensation still has to be paid for the development work done by his former club. Likely won't be a huge amount seeing as he's a 'free' agent

Same as when Liverpool got Ings from us. Out of contract but under 24.

I’m almost certain he’s a defensive midfielder.

Know nothing about him but U21 French international and Bristol City paid £7m for him back in 2019 (according to Wiki) which is huge money by their standards.

Adds another option in an area where we’re light assuming Bastien and Cork aren’t going to get much of a look in.

A Bristol City player until the end of June, offered a new deal so therefore they are entitled to compensation.

I think Bristol City froze him out because he wouldn't sign a contract. They sent him out on loan in January. City fans say he is a very good player with loads of potential.

I reckon they could field 2 teams that are not English,we only have Cork,Jay ,Taylor, and the lad from Villa .

That’s a relief, thought maybe we were signing a player that hadn’t lived upto expectations and just taking a punt.

It also explains the hold up, the club probably had to agree on the compensation we’d have to pay before announcing. Can imagine that would complicate things.

Who are you putting in goal for one of your two teams? James Trafford is English and almost near enough to Burnley to be a local boy.

If we got him for only small compensation then he could be a steal. Time will tell. Somebody’s confident to give him a four year deal

I'm really excited about this signing!

He looks like a ball winning midfielder with a good range of passing and very comfortable in possession.

The Premier League is obviously a big step up but it seems like he has the potential to be a really good player.

Welcome to Burnley!

He's actually one player I have seen a few times owing to a Bristol mate. He's really good at breaking up play, like a little wasp. He seems good at reading play and anticipating where the ball is going to go. He's stronger than he looks too. He's not lightning quick, but can still beat a man, and his passing is very good. That said, he is a bit inconsistent which you'd expect for his age. Even within a game, sometimes he's excellent for 5 mins then makes a daft error, or drifts out of he action.
For his age and the price, I think he's a brilliant addition

I think he was born in 2001 and not 2002 which means he is in the 25 and at present if thats the case we have 25 over 21 unless we leave out Obafemi due to injury and then maybe Bastien leaving today, Churlinov still getting over his illness, maybe Ekdal a longer term injury plus any other outgoings like Charlie Taylor or Brownhill

Almost 150 pro games by the age of 22 not including numerous International appearances. That's a serious step up in quality from players we have signed in that profile previously.

I always think that is worth looking at when you are considering whether we've made a good signing or not. I think back to THB last season who had just enjoyed two solid seasons on loan at Blackburn, Anderlecht and Stoke and then there's Trafford who at 20, a very young age for a keeper, has over 70 League One games behind him.

I bet the Southampton fans will be pleased to have got THB who can now add another year at Burnley to that impressive experience for someone so young.

100 games for Bristol City, still 22, one of the first things I spotted when I was writing the article.

Obviously will be a step up for the lad but both these comments are quite encouraging as this is the profile of player we don’t really have.

I was reading a Bristol article last week, basically saying that they were glad we were in for him.
They were worried he would go abroad and they would get a mere £200k in compensation, they seem to think they will get a 6 figure compensation from us, they reckon around £1 - £2 million.
