Three people are set to appear at court following incidents during the recent fixture between Burnley Football Club and Manchester City at Turf Moor.
During the game there were several incidents of unacceptable behaviour, including an individual entering the pitch, an item being thrown onto the pitch which hit a Manchester City player and a steward being assaulted.
Following enquiries carried out by Lancashire Police and Burnley Football Club, the following people have either been charged or summonsed to appear at court.
Elliott Littlefair, 18, of Lyndhurst Road, Burnley, has been charged with Section 4 Football Offences Act 1991 - Entering a playing area. He is due to appear at Burnley Magistrates Court on November 7.
Joshua Newbon, 20, of Schofield Street, Heywood, has been summonsed to appear before magistrates at a later date charged with common assault.
Christopher Brooks, 30, of Sandy Lane, Accrington, has been summonsed to appear before magistrates at a later date charged with Common Assault and Section 2 Football Offences Act 1991 - Throw missile onto playing area.
Supt Andrea Barrow, from Lancashire Police, said: “We know that the overwhelming majority of people go to the football to enjoy themselves and support their team, and genuine fans will have been appalled by recent events.
“We continue to work with Burnley Football Club to ensure all fans have an enjoyable and safe day at the football. Anyone who engages in disorderly or violent behaviour should expect to face criminal charges and a football banning order.”

Bring them on the pitch at every half time and hang them upside down in a bucket of urine.
Then have a penalty shoot out through their legs.
Winner gets a pie and a twix.

There is usually a reason behind why people behave like this, so lets not all jump on the bandwagon and slag them off.

Mmmm. I do appreciate this is often the case but let’s not forget that equally often is that people are very capable of growing up to be d***heads without any adverse social factors in play.

Not excuses at all. What if they are suffering with ADHD or autism, or other learning or mental health difficulties. Just don’t be too quick to judge people.

No, some people just suffer with ADHD or Autism or a bipolar disorder or a anti-social personality disorder or a borderline personality disorder or PTSD and sometimes act impulsively.

Millions of people suffer similar but don't go around committing criminal offences.....it's quite insulting to try and use that as a defence

I would say the opposite. It is insuting not understanding their symptoms and why some people can act like that.

On the face of it we don't know the ins & outs but what can safely be ascertained is that on that night unacceptable behaviour happened which needed to be dealt with & seemingly that's exactly what happened. You can't let that kind of sh1t go on it needs to be nipped in the bud & stamped out.

Brilliant. I’m in the ban them for life camp, if found guilty.
Just a pity they probably won’t get the scrote who threw the brick at the Villa coach.

Okay, I understand that and I am sympathetic to it. But if any of the 3 have such a condition, there is a reasonable expectation they might do it again. So ban them for life.

I’m not saying they shouldn’t be banned or held accountable but what i am saying, after being in my profession for 20 years, is that there is usually a reason why people act like this and for others just not to be so judgmental.

Sorry, I thought it was reported as being brick. Whilst, still not great, it does lessen the severity in my eyes.

The initial reports now seem strange....doesn't look like a brick, and wasn't thrown from a footbridge, I'd love to see the substantial damage to the coach

People hide behind autism or ADHD as an excuse for being a prick. Even if you have those conditions you know right and wrong.
Mental elf is the new "it woznt me guvnor"
Proper poor excuse. Should give them a bigger punishment if they try it
Shows a complete and utter disrespect for conditions that affect many people. Both conditions have a range of effect that varies from mild to severe - but one of the common symptoms is a great difficulty in thinking about consequences before acting impulsively. Impulsivity is one of the hardest parts of living with either, or both, conditions.

Every perpetrator is ultimately the bigger victim according to today's batch of defence lawyers
Attacked somebody randomly on the street? - Unresolved grief issues
Burgled a house? - PTSD
Selling drugs? - Autism
Death by dangerous driving? Unidentified anger management issue
Theft? - Anxiety
Drunk and disorderly? - Parents divorced 20 years ago. Never got over it

No question that people should be held to account otherwise society falls apart. But the lack of understanding of the mental health issues listed by PP is so sad. For example don't think you can hold such ignorant views and feel sorry for the young men who commit suicide.

But this is an entirely different debate initiated by PPP who has no idea of the mental state of the 3 perpetrators.
He just created the scenario for some weird reason.

It was a possibility no more & no less but the assumption was created that they could have been rather than just going with the likelihood that the perpetrators were just d1ckhead idiots & you are right the mental health issue is straying on to different territory. I think I could be mistaken the thrust of his point (which I agree with) is that had they been would some sort of right of appeal be valid & lodged on the condition of no repeat behaviour in mitigation, I think you can actually get the length reduced providing you have served 2/3 of the term in certain circumstances.

If they did it because they did not have the mental capacity to stop themselves, then what would be the point of a condition that they don't do it again? They can't stop themselves.
One of the points of a life ban is that it lets others of the same mind know that they will get a life ban as well if they do the same thing. And with that threat over them, those with the power of self-discipline will stop themselves throwing objects, or running on the pitch, or assaulting stewards. And those without that power of self discipline shouldn't be at Turf Moor without a carer anyway.
