All that after a certain Jimmy Greaves had put Chelsea ahead early doors.

Jimmy Mac was unplayable that day and scored twice, with JImmy Robson scoring a hat-trick and Brian Miller the other. Only Tottenham could live with us during that period.

Not an excuse, but.....We had to play this game without our top scorer that season, the famous Cornelious Hogan.

He came back the following week for the away game at Blackpool.

Yes against Darwen in 1891/92. The other 3 were all in the FA Cup - v. Crystal Palace, New Brighton & Penrith.

Another top class side to represent Burnley, several names there that also won the FA Cup just before WW1.

On this occasion the goals were not spread around, with centre-forward Joe Anderson scoring 5 times.

Anderson just one of four Burnley players to score 5 goals in a match, the others being Jimmy Ross, Jimmy Robson and Andy Lochhead (twice).

The record for goals in a game for us is Louis Page with 6 in 1925/26.

Not quite sure what the number 90 refers to after all 3 goalscorers. It's certainly not goal times as Best gave United the lead on 9 minutes whilst O'Neil & Dobson scored for us on 62 & 67 minutes respectively.

Seem to recall this game being the one when Frank Casper got sent off for hitting Francis Burns. I know we were 0-1 down at the time but then went on to win the game 2-1. Don't recall much about either goal but I do know that just 7 months later we beat Manchester Utd at home again, this time 1-0, with a 30 yard shot from 'the Bedlington Terrier' in the last minute of the game. In some ways it was reminiscent of the goal Joey Gudjonnson scored for us v Preston under Coyle. A shot that swerved and dipped. The victory came a week after Spurs had put seven past us at White Hart Lane.

Almost beyond belief that close to 55 thousand people could be shoe-horned into Turf Moor, especially as the Bee Hole End still sloped to just a few steps towads Brunshaw Road at that time. But the fact was that gates of over 40k were a common occurence then particularly just after WW2......So many people standing with just the old Brunshaw Rqad stand having seats.

Walter Weaver scored our ony goal in the 1-0 win,

Sadly only 54,774 people arrived home safely, a 69 year old man from Burnley suffered internal injuries in the crowd surge as Weaver scored & passed away in Victoria Hospital the following Friday.

Burnley Express had someone doing a cartoon strip of matches at the time which was far more entertaining then the match write up. This was his effort for the Huddersfield game.

I don't know why all football match reports haven't been done like this over the last 100 years.

Two of those five Burnley goals scored by the incomparable George Beel, our highest ever total goalscorer, including a remarkable 35 league goals in one particular season........However, in terms of goals/game ratio they all lag behind the great man Willie Irvine.

I remember one of Locheads goals which would have been chalked off today by VAR with Andy getting a straight red card. Corner from the right at the Cricket Field End. Andy marked by Mike England. Ball is played in, Andy lands a perfect low punch to England's solar plexus, England goes down and Andy heads home. Perfectly acceptable in those days

I was at this game and I'm pretty sure Charlton included Simonson who although well past his best had not long previously been named European Player of the Year (whilst playing for someone on the continent, maybe Ajax?)
I'm also thinking they might have had a sending off but I'm unsure AND that we scored all our goals in the first half, but that seems unlikely tbh.
