Square pegs in round holes

Dakhil is not a RB
Roberts is not a LB
A central midfield of two is too weak
Plan A isn't working Vincent - use the international break to come up with a system that best suits the players we have
4-5-1 maybe

Best way to describe it. The full back experiments needs to end after 1 game. And I have no idea why we moved to a 5-2-3 after half time.

Still hopefully though. We were bobbins at the start of last season and showed we were quick learners

We needed to fill the midfield and instead filled the defense. Hopefully Vincent learns.

Can’t understand playing Roberts left back by the time he’s controlled it ,he’s being closed down because he’s having to check back.

playing 2 out of position rather than 1, leave roberts at right back and dakil at left back, at least we have 1 in the right position

Get Taylor back as left back. I’m not sure what he’s done wrong or Vincent just doesn’t fancy him? Roberts right back.

That was especially
Poor in the second half . When Bronwhill emerged I thought VK had seen that we needed extra in the middle of the park. Unfortunately Berge went off along with JBG , very strange. Hopefully the international break sees the system/systems drummed in to those who don’t go away with their nations. Yes it was spurs but we gifted it to them

Surely noone can disagree with everything said in first 5 posts on here.

To be frank, I am very concerned tonight about our naivity and that of our manager.

Not to man mark Madison with Brownhill was suicide.

It was pretty obvious that we needed to retain as much of team as much as possible (get them in early with bids) and then supplement full back and midfield.

It’s going to be a long season if we continue to be so naive.

Perhaps the worst defeat I've seen for a long time. The 20 mins. or so either side of half time were appalling. They looked like they would score every time they attacked. Our passing was poor and ball retention even worse. 2-5 and a proper mauling.

Too much change too quickly. 100% guarantee the team that finished last season don’t do as badly as that mess we’ve seen in the last 3 games.

I reckon we are signing players to sell on so our investors get their money back at the worst (for them).

Get back to the system we used last year, but unfortunately we didn’t sign a left back.

I've been shocked at how poor we've been. How unfit do we look?! Yes we've played some good teams, some excellent teams. But what we've done to impact the matches has been way below what I was expecting and what's needed. We've been weak, slow, soft, disorganised and ill-disciplined. Other than that, up the Clarets.

The system last Season relied heavily on us having most of the possession. We defended simply by not allowing the opposition to have the ball.

That won't work as well this season, likely even against mid table sides.

We need to find a new way of playing

I'm afraid VK has some blind spots in his thinking. We have one right back who for some reason is playing left back. We have one left back, who for some reason can't even get in the squad. All this talk about Taylor not fitting the system is nonsense. We are unable to impose our 'system' on the opposition as we are being constantly pushed back. Brownhill needs to start to give some energy in the midfield. Taylor is a far better left back than any of our right footers playing at left back. We need to stop experimenting and get back to basics before confidence is seriously damaged.

We set up with 3 in midfield. We’ve set up more gung ho this season. Very naive.

I'm sorry but there is absolutely no way that Taylor is not better suited to playing this system than Roberts is at left back. He's also far more comfortable wide than Al-Dhakil has looked when played at right fullback.
Both Roberts and Al-Dhakil are overall better technical players but their deficiencies out of position are more marked than Taylor's are in his natural position (both on and out of posession) and we know Taylor is very solid defensively.

Terrible performance getting worse with each game, Trafford isn't good enough he's not even close to good enough waste of our budget.
Squad is unbalanced, no team in the league survives with the full back we employed today. O'Shea and Delcroix don't look good enough.
Forget any attacking signing we made we are going down with the keeper and defence we have if we persist in playing so open.
I could manage a team to beat us at the moment.

We have a rookie manager at PL Level who is learning to adapt on the job along with many of the players. Frank Lampard played at the highest level for many years but adapting to managing in the PL seemed beyond his abilities.
We will probably see many more days like today given the players VK has built his squad around. Let’s hope we are not cut adrift before Christmas arrives.

Exactly

Muric
Roberts, Dakhil, Beyer, Taylor
Anyone, Brownhill, Cullen, Berge, Koleosho
Foster

Certainly Vinny looks out of his depth so far but he is equivalent to a 20 year old player so needs time.

The tinkering looks very naive. The players heads must be spinning. Taylor, Cork, Brownhill and Jay would improve us but they are proven PL players so no surprise.

The press from the centre backs and full backs high up the pitch isn’t working. They get rolled very often and then the pitch is wide open. The defensive side has been a shambles thus far. I’m sure VK sees it. I’m hope he isn’t too proud or stubborn the sort it

Hung Al Dakhil out to dry today. No doubt he is going to get battered in the ratings but he is not a full back. We made matters worse by playing Roberts out of position. Play Taylor. Play Browny. Maybe even play Cork. Just get some experience in there to lead the way.

Hardly. Just passing comments on a shambolic display. Don't know how good Spurs are but I hope they are top 3 or 4 otherwise it doesn't look good.

So Taylor doesn’t play because he doesn’t fit Kompanys way of playing, but sticking Roberts there and Al-Dakhil makes us better? It’s a complete nonsense that the only LB we have can’t even make the bench.

Quite a few teams we play will be looking “top 3 or 4” until VK finds the missing formula.

VK was wrong about one thing. He said his team would never be as poor as they were on the opening day against Manchester City. Aston Villa and Tottenham have disproved that theory.

With brownhill berge and Cullen in the midfield you will be able to put benson on the right as you will have greater protection. You could even put an argument for a midfield three of Brownhill, Johan and Cullen. Taylor is our best fullback one on one. And when we get broken on it’s exactly what we need

Agreed, but so far the system doesn’t work and the style is “get battered and concede loads of goals”. VK putting out that defence because he can’t swallow some pride contributed to that hammering today.

At the moment we are making exactly the same mistakes that Norwich did and Fulham did under Scott Parker.

Bournemouth got beat 9-0 in their first couple of games last season. Stayed up.

Forest lost 6-0 and 5-0 in their first 5 games last season. Stayed up.

I don’t think it’s a useful comparison at this stage.

Or play Charlie there. I get the idea that he slows down possession due to his lesser passing skillet but he'd be no worse there than Roberts and then it frees Co nor to play his more favoured side.

The style at the minute is our defence getting ripped to shreds every game, so I’d hope VK would be open to adapting the much fabled ‘style’.
