PC help required

Hi guys, strange problem. PC internet worked perfectly at furthest distance from modem. We’ve just had a move around and in new location, a lot nearer, it kicks up fine and loads a couple of pages then loses internet. I’ve even tried the booster next to it but get same result. I sat next to it with ipad and I was getting 75Mb, on
www.fast.com , turned on PC and ran the same immediately and got 55Mb but within a minute internet was lost.
I’d like to forget my internet login details and then re-enter them but can’t find a “forget” button.
Any help gratefully received.

Bottom right where the WiFi sign is left click on that it should show the internet you are connected to, right click on it it should say forget.

Yea, tried that. Lists both my standard and 5g options but no “forget”.

Im certainly no PC ‘expert’ - but could you have dislodged/damaged your connectivity card/attachment?
Im assuming your using a tower PC rather than a laptop there?
If im correct in the assumption of a tower, maybe open it up take out the card - and re attach?

When we make a change and we encounter a performance issue in general the first thing to test is reversing the change. If you move it back to where it was before do you get back the performance you had originally? Did you change anything else?
If the performance drops then it suggests that something that isn't structural like a wall that doesn't let the signal pass. Is it possible that the pc is overheating? Is it getting less air than it was before?

Could be switching itself between 2.4 and 5ghz
2.4 has more range, 5 is faster
If you've lost connection it might be stuck at 5ghz - you can go into your router settings to see what band each device is on
default way to do it is type 192.168.1.254 into your browser - go to my devices or whatever and find which band your device is on.
If its on 5ghz it could lose signal at not a lot of distance - you could try disabling it or finding a way of connecting on 2.4 only

If you're running an anti-virus, try uninstalling it. It's often the most common cause of connectivity issues when other devices connect fine.

Thanks for the advice guys. Apart from opening it up I’ve tried most of them with no luck.
Tomorrow I’ll move it back and see what joy I get from that, as per DiBraidio.

Could you not connect via an Ethernet lead?

It is wifi but it was in the original location. I could try ethernet through the booster, tomorrow, but it is now in the extension and I think it is wired separate to the rest of the house.

We get that from the sky. Our landline was 4Mb max. When we moved here in 2004 we were getting, don’t laugh, 22kb. The National BB plan should be with us next year, expecting 200Mb then.

You want to avoid all boosters, especially when troubleshooting. Sometimes boosters can actually make your problem worse.
Some advanced troubleshooting may be required, both on the computer side with drivers and hardware, but also a site survey in your house too make sure you're not sharing the same channels as a busy neighbor.
If you can log into your router and change WiFi channels that's a start, there are some apps on phones that can read network channels so you can try and set a different channel from your neighbor.
You'll also probably want to stick your client to either 2.4ghz or 5ghz and not let it remember both. If it remembers both it may keep switching between the two.
Also, if you have the chance to wire directly to the router. Not via a booster or anything, you won't want to go back.

Cheers. I think the boosters are the problem as sky mini box in bedroom has also gone down.
Once I’ve got them paired again I will remove 5g from pc. Nothing to do with neighbours as our nearest is 150m away. Can’t move modem, ethernet to tv & sky box and voip phone, and can’t get pc nearer.
I’ll get there in the end.

Solved thanks for the suggestions.
I’d plugged the tp link into a ganger, NOT ADVISED. On checking their set up video both ends of the link should be wall mounted.
For some reason the “home” link was showing 3 led lights but the extender was only showing 2. The third light is the one that shows they are paired.

Sounds like you are using powerline extenders. I've had nothing but trouble with those. Only a matter of time before you get issues again.

I was using those when starting to WFH at the start of Covid.
Was working fine then kept disconnecting at least 3 times a day and the only way to reconnect was to reboot the pc
I’ve now invested in a 25m Ethernet cable and run it along the skirting boards between the rooms

That's what I do. 30m flat cat 6 running around skirting boards /doorframes / down the side of carpet like they used to do with telephone wires etc back in the day.
It's barely noticeable. No point in paying for 1gig connection if you aren't getting it!

The gzip file is a container for the pdf file, so all you need to do is use software to extract the pdf from within the gzip archive.
I recommend Nana Zip from Microsoft Store.

It's common practice to compress files to save space, which is why you will often have .pdf files inside archives like zip, gzip, 7z or rar files. Be careful though, because it's also a good way to hide viruses and trojans. Make sure what you are extracting is actually what you think it is, and doesn't end in .exe or .msi or similar.
