I think it was a games workshop at least? The old toy shop near the bus station, they sold warhammer figures and whatnot. There was a 2nd floor you'd go up. God it's killing me not remembering this. I've googled it but I can't find it.

They did models. Probably did GW, they certainly did some of the other dnd lines like Ralph Partha, Grendel etc.

That's it! Benn's, thank you so much, elwa. Just had a random memory of going in around every Christmas time but couldn't remember the name for the life of me. Genuinely magical memories of that place. It was where the chippy is now I think.

Val from Benn's carried on for a short while above the pet feeds store on the way to Burnley college - first choice animal feeds I think its called.

There was also another gaming shop that opened more or less directly opposite on Yorkshire St which I think is now a charity shop.

Windmill Models on Red Brick Terrace also used to stock them

Yes, I spent lots of my pocket money there on Subbuteo kit when I was 13-16/17 (mid 1960s). I started out with the flat thin plastic players then moved onto the 3-dimentional "continental" players with wider bases as the Subbuteo technology improved. I built up quite a few different coloured sets of teams and we had an "official" league for quite a few seasons in the area where I lived.

"Benns" I like my Heinz but nor that much.

There is/was a games shop on the way out of Burnley heading towards Gannow brow roundabout, when I was at Burnley UCL a couple of years ago. Always wanted to pop in but parking wasn’t great and they seemed to keep funny hours (presumably a club run from it).

I think the shop has moved to Brown Street. Walked past it the other day.

I remember some St Teds kids who used to go down to Bens during their lunchtime to see what they could kick from upstairs.

Benn’s in Burnley and Cowgill’s in Clitheroe is where my entire Subbuteo collection came from in the late 70s/early 80s. Cowgill’s is still there but sadly no longer stocks Subbuteo.

what a place it was, I got airfix models from there the small little soldiers about 1cm high and several castles type things for them . And of cource Subbuteo , I once did the unthinkable disgracefull thing of leaving BFC when we were 2 nil down to go get a new team from there so as to catch the 5:15 bus home. How baw was it when i got to the bus staion and the pink showed Burney 3;2 winners, neve again left a match early because we were losing . Still have the subbuteo incase the grand children want to play but they just look at me in disblief that its a game of fun

Best selection of fireworks in the area by miles.
Helped out in the early 80s still remember the huge glass cabinets with them al stackedl in happy days!
