Needs to stop them silly runs out from the back before it’s costs us a goal, was alright doing it in the Dog & Duck league but not in the big boys league, he’s done it about 4 times at least I can remember this season and lost the ball, could be more.

On Monday he got tackled on one occasion, and blocked on another, which on another day would have been given as a foul/obstruction.
He did however progress with the ball a number of times and got us up the field opening up the space out wide for the wingers.

I don't mind him doing it, but needs the shape to be there for the cover if he does so if he does lose possession or the ball doesn't stick up front, we are not left exposed

It’s great in terms of drawing opposing players to him in midfield, but only if there’s an option behind their midfield to play it to.

Too often when he does it, there’s no out ball for him leading to him trying to buy a foul which sometimes works, and sometimes doesn’t. At this level, that is a problem!

He got caught with the ball in the first 20 mins but after that thought he was very good and him bringing the ball out is a huge part of his game.

Completely disagree, needs to sharpen up but they’re a huge part of his game, I love seeing a CB do that and he’s very good on the ball

Really hope he continues them.

I would like the team to work on ways to find a wide player once he’d made his run. Many of his dangerous runs end in a five yard forward pass - would love them to work on plays that try & get us in behind.

One of our best ways to break a line. Just needs to adjust to the Prem and be more decisive. Which will come as the team find their feet and he has more options to pass too once he has beaten a few men.

A key tool for keeping us up.

Recognising how good you have to be at football to play professionally , and how physically fit, I always chortle when posters such as the OP denigrate a League like the Championship as a “pub league” or equivalent. I picture the OP as an overweight, bedroom dwelling keyboard warrior whose highest level of football achievement was as sub for his primary school XI.
And I hope Beyer keeps surging forward when the gap appears.

At least this week he had cover in behind him. Terrifying when he doesn’t.
Still a top player and will become a rock in the PL.

It's a learning curve for all our players. They need to learn what they can and can't get away with. What I noticed was that the midfield weren't giving the defenders easy options for passing out from the back. Yes the opposition may be better at positioning themselves to cut out the passes but I still think the midfield lacked movement to create the angles for the outballs. If we're going to play the ball out from the back it's essential that the rest of the team give the backline options. I like Beyer's runs as long as he finds a team mate and the defence aren't exposed by his absence.

I played a few weekends ago in a charity game with a lad that played at semi-pro level, been retired for 1 or 2 years having played at Bamber Bridge for a number of seasons.

He wasn’t majorly trying and wasn’t like unbelievably better than the rest of our team / opposition (who were full of lads playing on Saturday/Sundays) but it was pretty apparent that
If he really wanted to he could out football anyone playing at will almost.

The champ is an incredible standard now, far removed from even 20 years ago. It’s disrespectful some of the comments you hear about times in that division.

A lot of lads I know that played around the sort of 7th-10th tier of English footy were all top performers in school, being at football academies.

I don’t think some people realise just how good even players in league one and two are.

If you think back to when English football was predominantly British players most of the Brits in the Championship now would be stars in the top division. The foreign influx has improved the game and individual technique but hasn’t helped home grown talent at all.

I thought this was one of Bayers strong points a real driving force. Thought it worked well at times against Forest

You’ve made this point before and I don’t quite get it. Are you saying there’s no talent coming through? Bellingham? Saka? And do you not think players like Saka and Foden playing with technically brilliant players from abroad helps their game immeasurably?

This league is played at a faster & more intense pace, they're better players too.
I saw our players make a few strides in adjusting to it on Monday......i think we have potential all over the park & can't wait to see them progress....Beyer included.... UTC!

On one occasion Beyer tried to run with the ball out of defence and fair enough he got tackled and it could have been very costly. The second time he did and lost the ball he was blatantly fouled, but unsurprisingly that knob of a ref didn't give it and we were put in trouble. However, I was glad to see it didn't and won't stop him trying it, as it's a big part of his game and it's great when it works.

There are the few that still make it but most youngsters are snaffled up by the big 6 academies and then go into cold storage loaned out to championship clubs. Playing with the best can only improve the lucky ones but I would really like to see 6 British players on the pitch at all times in the PL. This would give more British players the chance to show what they have got.
If you look at it from the other side how many of these youngsters that are lauded as future superstars don’t make it?
I just feel there is massive talent in the Championship that will never get to prove themselves in the PL unless their club gets promoted.

On Beyer, what concerned me most was that again he appeared to suffer cramp before the end of the game.

On the quality of The Championship, it is obviously very good but I saw the Southampton Leicester game and the number of unforced errors (particularly but not only by Southampton) that occurred was surprising. I know we made the odd error, especially early in the season with new players and system but I don't recall it as bad as that. Again it is early in the season for both these teams but......

I thought it was Beyer's best game against Forest and he was excellent in general on the ball. I do understand the concern r.e his runs (I called this out on another post). They are vital to how we play and a key cog in our armoury, but he needs to be a bit more aware of the risk/reward at times because the first run was a bit ludicrous with the Forest players nearby. We cannot neuter this ability from him though, its outstanding and more often than not is a huge plus for us.

It is worrying how often he gets injured though or pulls up with strains, we definitely need to keep him fit!

We have had a bit of a stop start season with the Luton match being postponed and the international break and Beyer has also missed a match with injury. He might be getting cramp due to this as he will need more matches to get fully fit. He will also be having to work harder than last season due to the better players. If last season is anything to go by, he will improve and then find it a bit easier as he will start to read the game better and get used to the pace.

The Borussia Mönchengladbach fans on their forum have mentioned his niggly injuries.
